Ventilated classrooms

My DCs school has a policy of keeping all doors (to the outside) and windows wide open to keep the classroom well ventilated.

DC has been wearing - vest, long sleeve t shirt, school shirt, jumper, coat, hat, leggings, school trousers, 3 pairs of socks... And is STILL freezing.

His friends parents have said the same thing on the class mail thing - they are all v cold.

I do not have the confidence to email school as I am so grateful he even has a place that I don't feel I can say anything. However, he's so skinny and really struggling and I'm worried being so cold all day will cause him to become ill.

Anyone else's school.doing this??

What should.i do? Am I being ungrateful? He really needs the place (both DH and I are critical.workers, NHS)

IS he cold or not wanting to be at school?

They don't have to have the windows open all of the time, this Guidance was clarified in October:

• natural ventilation – opening windows (in cooler weather windows should be opened just enough to provide constant background ventilation, and opened more fully during breaks to purge the air in the space). Opening internal doors can also assist with creating a throughput of air.

Opening windows for short bursts periodically is enough to ventilate rooms. 5 mins every half hour, for example. With sufficient heating that the kids are warm enough in the "windows closed" times.

Frankly, it is appalling that some schools are expecting children (and staff) to sit in such cold conditions. They are (IMO) failing in their duty of care. And, yes, I am a teacher - regularly supervising KW children in school.

Thanks for tips! Will try a hot water bottle today.

To answer your questions -

yes, unfortunately be has to be at school (DH and I both critical NHS workers who need to b in).

Yes he is genuinely freezing. It's not about not wanting to go to school. He's not complained - but when I collect him he is white as a sheet, and cold to the bone and when I ask him he says he's been like it all day, and I believe him.
