When will primary schools reopen?

I'm desperate. Single mum of two kids. Full time demanding job but not a key worker. Zero support. Exhausted doesn't begin to describe it.
When do you realistically think primary schools will reopen?

I also reckon Easter. But if the new variant moves up to the North so that their hospitals are as bad as London's are now all bets are off I reckon.

Not sure what age your DCs are but would the BBC Bitesize programming, online games and lessons help? They're helping us massively.

Educational but also fun and relaxed, they dip in and out of different subjects and my DCs of different ages enjoy a lot of it together and are far more independent than with the stuff school are setting.

Sam & Mark, Horrible Histories made them laugh so much! Lovely to hear as they're all so anxious this week. 'Our School' giving a fun glimpse of Year 7's starting secondary brilliant for my Year 6 DD.

I'm resigned to at least Easter really so trying to learn my lessons from the first lockdown and get in to a home school routine that's sustainable for us for a while.

I think after Easter also but I'm hoping that KS1 gets to go back after feb half term even if it is part time only

@RuleWithAWoodenFoot

No one knows, and school staff find out at the same time as everyone else does via leaks to Peston.
Who is Preston and where can I find him? I’ve heard good things about him.

I’m hoping KS1 after half term (Feb).
Second those saying to nail down a good routine. We do our home school in the morning while my DC are awake and engaged. I follow school timetable as much as i can - giving them breaks for milk and fruit.
I also insist on one decent walk a day, which they complain loads about but enjoy it once they are out.
Late afternoon i upload what they’ve done, find the gaps and organise myself for the next day.

What I would say though is we do this everyday... we dont have weekends off. The reason being, there’s nothing to do at the weekend and if gives me a chance to catch them up a good 4 hours of work, 2 on each day. They don’t seem to mind (yet).

Thanks for all the responses. And thanks to those who offered ideas to help me. I am looking into getting some help in the mornings. I also worry about my mental health as I'm permanently on edge and close to crying. I have contacted the head teacher twice actually and put my case to him but he has had many more key worker children come to school this time so had zero capacity for exceptions. I am going to email the class teachers this week and explain that we cant do what they seem to expect and I will make use of bbc content some of you suggested.
Thanks for all the support. It was nice to read this morning. And fellow single mums ... hugs to you too x

Sorry you are finding things so difficult OP, as others have said though you can only do what you can do.

I'm thinking Easter too, when he was giving his timeline Easter seemed reasonable and then he went "February"

I wish they would say a worst case scenario rather than a random hope that just gets moved.

Thefeep · 12/01/2021 09:45

I’m hoping after half term. Mine are teenagers but I’m seriously worried now. Remote learning is next to useless. I don’t live lesson a day. Rest of the day teachers popping on and setting work and then disappearing off again. Not answering emails asking for help. It’s diabolical.
