Good news about bubbles

I've been listening to Matt Hancock's press conference on the radio (you can also read some summary points on the Guardian website www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2021/jan/11/uk-coronavius-covid-news-latest-updates-chris-whitty-boris-johnson-matt-hancock-vaccine-nhs-brexit) and wanted to share something he said in case it gives people peace of mind...

I know lots of people have been worrying that any future tightening of restrictions might include doing away with support or childcare bubbles - well, a journalist asked him about that very matter today, and he was 'glad to clarify' that he can absolutely rule out bubbles being banned, even if restrictions tighten further in the future.

I know how much of a lifeline these bubbles have been for some, so just wanted to share the news!

Good news

chocolateisavegetable · 11/01/2021 17:58

It's a massive relief

LJC1234 · 11/01/2021 17:59

Thank you so much for sharing this. I have been worrying all day since it's been speculated they may stop bubbles

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/01/2021 17:59

Agreed- good news for those who are able to bubble within the rules.

Id bloody love to see some sort of register though. I know people who are quite vocal in using "in my bubble" or similar if they mention anything and it invariably includes more than one other family.

We've not bubbled with anyone as we have no need to, and don't have any lone adults in our life who aren't already bubbled with someone else. I'd not begrudge anyone using a bubble - but I do think it should be logged somewhere.

Wannabegreenfingers · 11/01/2021 18:04

Thank god. I love my kids, but zero adult interaction would leave me in a bad way.

clopper · 11/01/2021 18:09

What a relief

NeverForgetYourDreams · 11/01/2021 18:13

Sadly they have a habit of Changing their minds. My elderly mother will suffer if they do

borageforager · 11/01/2021 18:15

Is this the same as when they promised schools would be opening...?

He was absolutely crystal clear on this.

The cynic in me panics when he or Johnson say something is not going to happen.

user1495884620 · 11/01/2021 18:20

Because this government never u-turns.Hmm

You should look at the press conference.

I’m absolutely no Matt hancock fan. This was totally believable though, in the way that the schools u turn and the others haven’t been.

Brilliant news

Simonfromharlow · 11/01/2021 20:17

This is great news! The first lockdown took me to a very bad place before support bubbles were introduced! I would hate anyone to have to go through this!

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 20:19

The only sensible thing he said today.

Now he needs to re-read the guidance about travel for exercise and notice that it clearly states you can travel for exercise within your area.

nex18 · 11/01/2021 20:27

It was very good to hear this said out loud by Matt Hancock. I really think they were omitted as an oversight last March.
