Can’t find anything online - does anyone know?

It's definitely ramped up. I got my vaccine today.

whittystitties · 11/01/2021 17:17

Vaccine chat, talk up the vaccine... stay at home reminders, Hancock did his angry sex cry face a few times

No ridiculous further restrictions

borntohula · 11/01/2021 17:19

I'm sure some people would get off on that but I personally would hope not.

justanotherneighinparadise · 11/01/2021 17:20

If the mutant strain hadn’t of fit us we’d have been okay.

Thursday seems to be a favourite day for new announcements. I would look out for something then.

puffinkoala · 11/01/2021 17:35

@Love2cycle

6 days!!! That surprised me too!!
I think it's because we were in tier 4 before that, and tier 2 before that, and lockdown lite before that, and before that we had the rule of 6 etc.

We've never been out of some sort of restrictions since March, some areas worse than others.

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/01/2021 17:36

@Madcats

I think this is a "look we've opened some more vaccination hubs and we've vaccinated 2 million since mid-December" briefing.

There will also be a "please follow the rules", bit.

Correct!
puffinkoala · 11/01/2021 17:38

I think people just do not realize how terrible the situation is here in comparison to places liks Australia and New Zealand

People are well aware.

But the Isle of Man had it sussed, months without covid cases, and is back in lockdown. Nowhere is 100% safe.

GlobeUs · 11/01/2021 17:39

@PuppyMonkey Thank you :-)

PilatesPeach · 11/01/2021 17:47

MH confirmed support & childcare bubbles will not be removed. Option left open for other restrictions but he said they don't want to.

LickEmbysmiling · 11/01/2021 17:49

For the first time I thought mh was reasonably confident today.
Said some good messages, act like you have it...

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 17:55

MH saying not to travel for exercise, but the Guidance says:

"outdoor exercise. This should be done locally wherever possible, but you can travel a short distance within your area to do so if necessary (for example, to access an open space)"

It is allowed under the Guidance, stop telling us it isn't or update the Guidance.

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 17:58

Also the reason for not vaccinating 24/7 being that those doing the vaccinating and those receiving the vaccines don't want it!
Not true. if the elderly and vulnerable don't want to be vaccinated at 10pm there are millions who do. And many many NHS workers in hospitals who are quite happy to work 24/7 because that is what they do anyway. They would either cover vaccinations 24/7 as part of normal shifts, as overtime or in many cases (because they are nice people often) for free for the good of society. I know nurses who would definitely work a night shift administering the vaccine.

A total waste of a third/half of the day not to be vaccinating 24/7 and a really stupid reason why.

Very much agree.

The government have spent months encouraging people to do whatever they can within the rules - 'Eat out to Help Out', return to work, return to school - and then seem surprised when people adjust their behaviour according to the actual rules and guidance.

They also seem to have no understanding that 9 months later many people are in a more difficult position and more likely to balance their own needs against a request to 'altruistically' lock down.

If they need people to restrict contact further, they need to spell it out, and ideally provide proper support for people who need to isolate.

Johnson is too much of a coward to be honest, and Hancock just hides behind blaming the public.

I don't understand the advantage to be gained by vaccinating 24 hours a day? It won't make any more vaccines available, and it also won't make any more staff available - how is it better to have 50% of staff working 8am-8pm and 50% 8pm-8am, as opposed to having 100% working 8am-8pm? You'll get the same number of vaccines done in that 24 hour period either way. I can only see an advantage if the issue is that we're physically running out of space to carry out vaccines and surely that isn't true?

When I drove to work on Monday last week he was quoted on Radio 4 as saying that. Such a shame that the government were at that point forcing children, teachers and support staff into work then. Who in their right mind would be going into a school if they had covid?
PilatesPeach · 11/01/2021 18:24

There currently is not enough vaccine to vaccinate in some places 7 days a week - I volunteer at a vaccine centre set to be open 12 hours a day and it is only opening 2.5 days this week due to supply.

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 18:25

That is a valid reason. That is not the reason he gave. He said 24/7 would only be possible if those getting the vaccine and those giving the vaccine wanted it, which they didn't.

If you only use half the day, it will take twice as long.

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 18:26

There isn't a set number of staff. There are many many staff in hospitals who would do overtime.

I know nurses who are trying very hard to work on the vaccination rollout and cannot get anyone to use their services, either paid or for free.

lazeeboy · 11/01/2021 18:27

And like the person above, I have voluteerred as a non-medical person and they don't need me. They have hundreds of volunteers and are closed 12 hours a day.

maggiso · 11/01/2021 19:31

I wonder if, presuming an increase in the supply of vaccine soon, once the elderly have had their vaccines if they will expand the hours for younger adults. MH did say he/ they would consider anything- so he didn’t rule it out.

PilatesPeach · 11/01/2021 19:45

Interesting about 24 hours - as a non-medical volunteer I spend my time outside marshalling the car park - it is already a challenge in winter in the evenings in the rain and freezing cold for 3 hours - I am not sure I could be persuaded to be out there at 3am Grin

Hardbackwriter · 11/01/2021 19:53

There might be a case for expanding hours to use staff who usually work office hours as extra vaccinators, but I just can't see the argument that there's an army of people who would be happy to work at 3am but not, say, on their day off. Also is shortage of staff even a current constraint on the number of vaccines that can be delivered? As you say, a lot of the staff who have volunteered so far haven't got that far, so looking at that system seems a better solution if we need more people than giving vaccinations through the night.
