24/7 vaccine roll out

VortexofBloggery · 11/01/2021 14:53

Would you turn up at an unsociable hour to receive the jab? ( Say, 10pm to 8am) PM's office says there's no appetite for that, which strikes me as really out of touch with people wanting to get out of lockdown asap. I would go at any hour for the jab, would you?

I think the question could be will they have constant supplies of the vaccine in order to do that and sufficient trained people available around the clock to administer it. You would need a reasonable amount of people willing to attend each hour, every hour to make it worthwhile.

Pavit · 11/01/2021 14:58

I'd go up to 11pm but wouldn't want a later appointment than that.

Eyewhisker · 11/01/2021 14:59

I would. But there are other threads here where it is considered outrageous that 80 year olds are asked to travel 45 miles and then wait for 20mins in a queue to get a jab.

I’d go at anytime and would drive my elderly relatives hundreds of miles if needed.

SeriouslyConfusednamechanger · 11/01/2021 14:59

I would.

beautifullyengineeredspecimen · 11/01/2021 15:00

I would go anytime of day or night, alas i have caught Covid before I got chance to get the vaccine. I am group 6 so not sure when I be contacted.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 11/01/2021 15:02

I think he means there’s no appetite for it amongst the people who are doing the vaccinating, not the people who are receiving it.

DivGirl · 11/01/2021 15:02

I wouldn’t. I have a toddler.

I don’t think there would be enough people willing to go for 2am appointments to justify the cost of keeping the service operating 24/7.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/01/2021 15:02

I'm shielding as I'm extremely clinically vulnerable ...I'm in the anytime, anywhere camp.

lovemirage · 11/01/2021 15:03

I could go if it would in walking distance.

Hedgemoon · 11/01/2021 15:03

Anywhere, anytime for me!

AnyFucker · 11/01/2021 15:04

I think the uptake would be very poor, thus not making it effective to employ the staff and facilities round the clock.

m0use · 11/01/2021 15:04

Would I get the vaccine at a stupid time - sure. BUT it would be logistically impossible at present (not enough vaccine stocks; or staff to give it 24/7). From a safety perspective, I feel uneasy about 80+ year olds staying up to 2am and driving to test centres

atomt · 11/01/2021 15:05

I would do my utmost to go but realistically as I don't have a car, it wouldn't be easy to go somewhere say 3am... still if that made the rollout in general quicker, I would find a way to do it.

hennybeans · 11/01/2021 15:07

Every time someone asks this question I am reminded of the Dr Seuss book Green Eggs and Ham. I haven't read it since childhood, but it's something along the lines of I would eat green eggs and ham on plane, bus, train, at 3 am, upside down, one handed, standing on my head etc. That's how I feel about the vaccine. Any time, anywhere, get it done!

UnbeatenMum · 11/01/2021 15:07

No, I've got a toddler who wakes at 5 at the moment. I guess I'd do an early morning one but not any hour.

ivefuckinghadenoughnow · 11/01/2021 15:08

I'd go at anytime even though that would mean waking up my 4 year old (i can't drive)
It would be worth it to accelerate the vaccine roll out

TJ17 · 11/01/2021 15:09

I would yeah. Would travel 3 hours to be honest! Just want to get back to normality

wintertravel1980 · 11/01/2021 15:10

When the vaccine supply is increased (which will inevitably happen), they can use unsociable hours to vaccinate younger population. Many key workers work shifts and will not have a problem visiting vaccination centres later in the evening / early in the morning.

Yes, running vaccination centres is expensive but I imagine keeping the economy shut costs us much more.

skippetyskoo · 11/01/2021 15:11

I absolutely would.

Spikeyball · 11/01/2021 15:12

Fine by me. Happy to miss a nights sleep to get it done.

Spikeyball · 11/01/2021 15:15

Loads of people get up at unsociable hours to go on holiday so I think lots would do it for this. I think staffing/ supplying it would be more of the problem.

VortexofBloggery · 11/01/2021 15:15

I notice that group 6 ( underlying health conditions) which I'm in too, has far more people in it than the older age groups. So for the elderly, 24/7 wouldn't work but for this larger yet younger co-hort, I hope they step it up. "No one is clamouring for late night appointments" is what PM's office is saying, not that there isn't enough vaccine or staff to administer ( which may be true).

FOJN · 11/01/2021 15:15

I'd take a 3am appointment if it was offered.

zafferana · 11/01/2021 15:19

Yes, I would - 11pm, 2am, whenever - and I think of lot of adults who are not elderly would do so. The bottom line is that if vaccinations were run 24/7 then all adults in the country could be vaccinated in half the time it will take if it's just 8am - 8pm.

That means DC could go back to school, people could go back to work, those in hospital could be accompanied/visited by their loved ones, people could go on holiday again, see their families and friends, festivals, clubs, bars and pubs could re-open in half the time it will otherwise take. Who the hell wouldn't want that???

FindHungrySamurai · 11/01/2021 15:19

Yes, although I’d have to ask DH to drive me.

It seems as if there aren’t currently the stocks or the staff for this to be reasonable, and I’d be very surprised if there was enough uptake among the over 80s for a 3am slot to make it worthwhile.

However in a couple of months, if we do get to the stage where they have ample vaccine supplies and all the logistics sorted and could vaccinate substantially more people by working round the clock then yes I’d happily take the 3am slot if offered, even if that means DH downing three Red Bulls and driving me to Epsom in the middle of the night.
