Just as title says? I'm finding it marginally easier this time because school have for their shit together. But there's still A LOT of tv.

Heaps. H.E.A.P.S.

So glad this happened now and not when the kids were little and I was in the running for some imaginary mother of the year medal that never arrived in the post.

2 hours on a really good day, 5 hours on a not good day.

Today was an incredible really good day, I didn't have to work so we aced homeschool for both of them between 9-11am, then 20 mins of TV, then we went to a park we hadn't been to for a while with lots of playground stuff which was completely deserted and sheltered from wind so they played for 3 hours, we had lunch, went home. One then watched cbbc on the ipad, I did jigsaws with the other, then we had dinner and both did music practice (which never happens!!), then they had another 40 min TV then bed. I'm basically bragging. I can't quite believe it.

On Saturday one got up and watched cartoons on DH phone from 7-9am, then TV for both 9-11.30am, quick random play where they were still using screens, as they were supposedly making a film, then a limp sort of walk, then home for more whinging, snacks and TV....

Livpool · 11/01/2021 20:27

A lot more than usual

OhioOhioOhio · 11/01/2021 20:32

What's your school done that has made it easier?

Doublechins · 11/01/2021 20:38

10 year old - none but he is on his phone a LOT!

9&6 year olds have been allowed to watch a film when they go to bed because they can have a bit of a lie in. We haven't had it on through the day though.

Tholeonagain · 11/01/2021 21:07

Oh gosh all the time... and usually real rubbish stuff on YouTube.. Am trying to let go of the misfit class guilt.. there’s a pandemic going on...

Tholeonagain · 11/01/2021 21:09

Middle class guilt..

MarshaBradyo · 11/01/2021 21:11

Yr 6 thankfully school takes up all day until about 2.30 / 3.00

Then no tv but games and usually a movie with sibling

RebeccaCloud9 · 11/01/2021 21:18

Shit loads. Mostly hours of utter shit, not even the good stuff on cbeebies.

hemhem · 11/01/2021 21:26

My 6yr old and 3yr old watched about 5 hours today, will probably be the same all week as DH and I both have to work and its they only thing that stops them fighting with each other. Its quite depressing when all they do is sit and watch paw patrol for hours and hours

wixked · 11/01/2021 21:38

Usually less than 2 hours. I aim for 1 but usually closer to 2. I hold out until 5 then put it on while I sit down then make dinner.

Indiaplain · 11/01/2021 21:54

Mine are early risers so they have usually watched 1.5 hours by 7.30am. The another hour or 2 over lunch and then after 3pm it's just screens until dinner, sometimes this is zooms with friends (zooming while playing roblox).

They hardly watch any decent tv, often you tubers playing video games and cranking each other.
Sometime I force them to watch operation ouch or something on National Geographic.

This thread is reassuring but I worry about it constantly, but also trying to wfh.

I used to think more than 1 hour after school was a lot!

Ltdannygreen · 12/01/2021 01:26

My dd8 very rarely watches tv, but she’s had a lot of game time and YouTube, there not much more I can do with her tbh, DS is autistic and requires 1on1 so after her work I have to help him. I have taken her for a few walks and she’s been outside to play football with my sister (who lives with us)

ElsaSchraeder · 12/01/2021 10:10

me too. They will get back to a more balanced life in time. We are all doing our best.

hemhem · 12/01/2021 14:57

@wixked what are your kids doing for the day? Are they old enough to be able to play independently?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 12/01/2021 15:05

What are you counting as TV?
At the weekends... Loads. Some is rubbish, some of I is pretty decent (they like documentaries).
During the week, i try to leave I for evenings only. But will use YouTube for Cosmic Yoga or education stuff.

Reasonably Luc in having two close in age who play together.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 12/01/2021 15:05

Ah this is reassuring! I’d say 3-4 hours TV/tablet time pretty typical here, though I am trying to reduce it!

ichundich · 12/01/2021 15:20

Loads unfortunately. We do 3-4h of schoolwork, walk or park and play a family game every day, but there are so many hours in the day to fill. I have locked YouTube though, so at least they're not watching that.

frozendaisy · 12/01/2021 15:56

@TweeterandtheMonkeyman

If by TV you mean YouTube- then loads....loads and loads ... and loads 😬🙈😂
Snap.

Other people playing Minecraft, I joined in this morning "50 ways to die in Minecraft" that's time I won't get back!
