Will schools be back to normal by September 2021??

Got DC's hopefully starting GCSES and A'Levels next September. It's been so stressful worrying about my eldest DC who's currently doing GCSES I'm just clinging onto the hope that they can at least get back to normal by next academic year.

@FourTeaFallOut

Op, what you have here, is all the frustrated people who insisted that we'd never have a vaccine.
This.
Delatron · 11/01/2021 18:03

For all those saying years. Do you not agree that vaccinating the vulnerable and elderly and then everyone over 50 etc will reduce the pressure on the NHS? Then there will be no justification for restrictions

If you are saying next Easter. Why? With a vaccine? Why would that happen?

I’m quite frankly sick of people dropping in random times and years with no explanation. Explain yourselves!

Jenasaurus · 11/01/2021 18:03

@Porcupineintherough

I think so, yes. Assuming the vaccine rollout goes as planned.
Yes and as long as it doesnt mutate so that the vaccine is no longer effective
TheCap · 11/01/2021 18:13

The unfounded prophecy of doom on this thread is absolutely pathetic.

Porcupineintherough · 11/01/2021 18:25

@User158340 they probably will, just like they do for other bugs. But as long as people aren't getting seriously ill and dying in droves then it'll just be one of those things, like flu outbreaks. The virus isnt going to just disappear, although when enough of us are immune it should be much less prevalent.

Porcupineintherough · 11/01/2021 18:27

@Jenasaurus luckily tweaking a vaccine to keep track with mutations is fairly quick and straightforward. And when there's less virus in circulation, the rate of mutation will slow down.

RMRM · 11/01/2021 18:31

No, I don't think so.

We don't know how long the vaccine is effective for yet. They won't have vaccinated children and unfortunately there's a chance there could be more mutations.

I think it will be a good while longer. I don't want it to be, obviously, but better to be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised. I'm not even banking on Christmas to be normal, tbh.

Delatron · 11/01/2021 18:38

They don’t need to vaccinate children! This thread is ridiculous

SnowFields · 11/01/2021 18:39

No, they won’t be but I would be very surprised if schools close again.

Staggered drop offs/pick ups etc and testing/isolating as well as distancing and masks are likely to continue for next winter.

Agree

Children will naturally fight it off and develop immunity. Adults should pretty much all have been vaccinated by then.

At the moment immunity is still looking robust - Moderna think it should last at least 2 years

And we have gotten through all other pandemics I cant see why we see this one as being so different

MorrisZapp · 11/01/2021 18:43

My son had a normal term of school, before the vaccine was invented. Why on earth would be be kept at home once the vaccine kicks in?

FourTeaFallOut · 11/01/2021 18:45

Oh, now you've done it. Brace yourself for bogeyman whackamole.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/01/2021 18:45

Schools will be the first thing to open, before pubs and they won't keep pubs closed until September.
