Teachers: Is there a plan to get schools back?

Elephant4 · 10/01/2021 18:24

I don’t mean right this minute.

But are the government working with schools to find a way to reopen schools SAFELY when the time is right?

OP posts:
Itisasecret · 10/01/2021 18:58

Nope. I mean this time last week full F2F provision was planned. Then after a full day in school, everyone was told at 8pm to scrap that.

I’m not sure if you realise but school ‘closures’ double the work load. Teachers have no time to be planning anything else.

justaweeone · 10/01/2021 19:18

Need a Crystal ball for that one!🤣 School find out at the same time as everyone else!

motherrunner · 10/01/2021 19:21

We find out with everyone else through BBC news 🤷‍♀️

SmileEachDay · 10/01/2021 19:25

No. We’ll know when you do

Dogscatsandsparrows · 10/01/2021 19:25

I love how apparently the general public fondly believe that teachers have any sway/influence on govt decision making. I suppose we just have to keep saying we find out via the TV when you do 🤦‍♀️

Candyfloss99 · 10/01/2021 19:26

Still trying to get to grips with putting out remote learning, definitely not planning for opening to everyone again.

echt · 10/01/2021 19:28

@selfcare

No. The government seems to be investing massively in the improvement of remote learning.
How are they doing that exactly?
WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 10/01/2021 19:28

Have you been in the giggle juice???

Plan?

Consult with those who actually work in schools

You're a comedienne for sure.

Pugdoglife · 10/01/2021 19:30

We'll find out about it by watching the six o'clock news like everyone else.....the day before they want us to implement it, just like everything else recently.

MrsMomoa · 10/01/2021 19:34

Plan??
I presume, to open back up again under the same circumstances as before, but only when the numbers have gone down.

lonelyplanet · 10/01/2021 19:39

The government don't plan anything when it comes to schools. All decisions seem to be forced upon them by situations spiralling out of control. Therefore schools can't plan either as they don't know what is going to be thrown at them until the very last minute. Gavin Williamson is out of his depth.

MrsHamlet · 10/01/2021 19:44

Of course not. The government consults with no one.

PoppinShoppin · 10/01/2021 19:51

How the fuck would we know? We'd be the last to find out.

Hugepeppapigfan · 10/01/2021 19:54

Plan: Continue to insist schools are safe and deny that they were ever partially closed because they were unsafe. Tell all children to return to school in the normal manner because schools are safe and the risks of covid to children are low. Ignore the health and safety of staff, parents and the community at large.

So a repeat of last time is expected.

yankeedoodledandee · 10/01/2021 19:54

@MarcelineMissouri

OP was asking when schools will be back. As in 'back to normal'

Dogscatsandsparrows · 10/01/2021 19:58

'back to normal' as in open to all with some hand sanitizer and a few open windows to keep us all safe?

Same response...when we are told via the TV 🤷‍♀️

PurpleFlower1983 · 10/01/2021 19:59

No but hopefully it will be done more safely next time - rotas, smaller classes etc.

piefacedClique · 10/01/2021 20:04

Your guess is as good as ours. There would be plenty of excellent ideas if they took the time to listen to teachers but seeing as they usually can’t be arsed then Who knows.... gav and his cronnies certainly don’t! At least Kirsty here in wakes seems like she gives more of a shit but she’s leaving her post in April I think so heaven help us then!

Maryann1975 · 10/01/2021 20:10

The government seems to be investing massively in the improvement of remote learning
Hahahahaha
The local schools have put a plea to local business if they can donate any spare but working laptops so they can distribute them to children who need them. This does not sound like a government investing in remote learning!

As of for a plan for schools to return
Hahahahaha as if schools know that kind of information. As others have said, this time last weeks, thousands of teachers were preparing to go back to school doing face to face lessons. They did a day and had all their plans scrapped. Even if there was a plan, I doubt many of them would believe it until it actually happened.

lavenderlou · 10/01/2021 20:14

The best thing to do is to listen to what Gav suggests and then assume it will be the exact opposite of this. So if he says, we aim to have children back in school by mid-February, assume it will be September. If he says, schools are unlikely to be open until July, assume we'll be back by half term.

A few people are saying vaccinating teachers will help but I don't think it'll make much difference to when schools re-open. Schools didn't close to all children because teachers were at risk, they closed because they were driving community spread of COVID.

This. It's starting to piss me off when people suggest schools are closed to protect the staff. The government couldn't give two hoots about the safety of staff. The only thing in consideration when deciding when schools re-open will be the effect school attendance has on community transmission and hospitalisation. I imagine the return of schools will be closely connected to the number of vulnerable people who have been vaccinated.

Funding being made available for online platforms and devices

The op asks when schools will reopen. I’m just pointing out they’re not closed!

ParisJeTAime · 10/01/2021 20:48

I asked my Tory MP this question and got such a rude reply from his secretary! Touchy subject I guess!

Maryann1975 · 10/01/2021 20:49

But they’ve already missed one week Of online lessons and the system isn’t yet in place. Week 2 starts in 12 hours and many dc don’t have a device to work from. Funding shouldn’t be being made available for this now. It should have been sorted back in September in preparation for this, so schools could hit the ground running and know what was going on. Instead the poorest children are being let down again. Private companies have pledged extra internet/WiFi but it is far from ideal having 3 dc sharing a phone to work from (I know a family where this is happening and it does not work!)

LadyPenelope68 · 10/01/2021 20:50

Government consulting schools about going back? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Headteacher’s and school staff will find out at exactly the same time as everyone else.
