Notice for jab

Hi,
My mum (71) is panicking about when she might get the jab and the logistics of it all. She is one to worry though. She’s not in the groups they are doing just yet- but is still concerned she might “miss” her turn. She’d need to sort transport etc. For those who have been called, or if your friend or relative has been called for the jab, how much notice did they give you? Did you get a few days between invite and jab?

I think you go on line and make the appt yourself at a time that suits you.

As she's only 71, it will probably be an altogether easier process as the more local centres will hopefully be open by then. She probably won't need transport as it will be in her local Tesco or Boots or somewhere like that.

Sorting transport is a case of phoning the taxi company or checking the bus timetable because car sharing isn't permitted so 5 minutes should be plenty for that.

There speaks a town dweller...here we have two buses a week to the vaccination hub (12 miles away) and taxis (which are 7 miles away) need to be booked days in advance or they won't come out !

I could almost hear the excitement in your post then that you get a chance to remind everyone of the rules.

She will have some options. First she can be called by her local GP network. They use a variety of ways to do this, by phone, letter and text. They will book her in directly on their own system.

The network may be easy to get to but the alternative is to book via the national booking system. This will give her access to any mass site and any pharmacy who is offering vaccines near her. Not all pharmacies will be doing it.

For the national booking system she will get a letter with a QR code. That allows her to book her slot.

And that’s the madness. Not sharing a car with someone you know but allowed on a bus with randoms.

Hi, my Mum is 80 and she has had both her jabs. She was phoned by the GP and given about a weeks notice of the first. They also gave her the date for the follow up at the same time. She said that the organisation was fantastic and that all the staff were amazing. Think it will vary in different areas. She is in Hampshire. Hope this helps xx

Paperyfish · 10/01/2021 18:50

Ok, thanks- that’s reassuring it wasn’t a same day kind of thing.
@StatisticalSense she does live very rurally and feels too anxious for the once daily public transport she could get to town here atm. She could do a taxi- but would need to book one, get cash etc - she does like to worry about every aspect!
@bathmatandbin- sounds very organised, thank you.
@LemonTT- very helpful thanks- I will let her know.
