How long are your primary kids spending on school work each day?

As of yet we have heard nothing from dd2 primary, I checked with one if friends mum to make sure I wasn't missing something and she confirmed she has heard nothing either. I'm hoping there is something going on behind the scenes that we are unaware of and will get something soon but if last lockdown is anything to go by it will be TTRS and reading. So how much are your primary children doing each day? Dd is year 4, I purchased scholastic workbooks for last week but not sure how long is realistic for her to work on each one.

We moved to the UK in December and last Tuesday was supposed to be my son's first day at school (in person), instead, it is all online. I'm no stranger to homeschooling (I homeschooled my eldest for 2 years through ill health) and know that it is much more efficient than school. I don't mean it is superior, just that more work can be covered when it is 1 on 1 and that any work set by the school will not cover a school day (9-3) at home. This is because there are no class discussions, handwashing, disruptions, and all the things that the teacher above mentioned.

My son is Year 4 and that is what we do
8.30am Lexia/Reading
9.15am Microsoft Teams Assembly
9.30am White Rose Maths
Oak Academy English
12 -1pm Lunch
After Lunch Topic work/DT/ICT etc
2.45pm Daily Debrief and chat about days work
Teacher is available all day and will call you directly to answer questions, listen to the children read etc.

They are doing a great job but I know from homeschooling that the work will not fill a whole school day 'at home'. So for example, if my son finishes Maths in 20 minutes, we try not to start the next lesson until the scheduled time. I will then fill the remaining time slot with some things out of my 'kit bag' which are
Operation Ouch on Youtube
Dr Binocs on Youtube
Squeebles Timestables app
Squeebles Number bonds app
Squeebles Spellings
Reading a short nonfiction book
Quizlets Grammar quiz that I set up for him
Reading from the school's book challenge
If he's finished the book,a brief book review and give it marks out of 5.
Handwriting practice/copying a poem out of his poem book
Drawing a picture of his weekend.

All these things don't require my help and I select one or two of them every time he has finished his work ahead of schedule.

The schools have been doing a great job and by using these short supplementary bits above he has worked for a whole school day.

As someone who has had children in school and also homeschooled I think parents would stress less if they stopped feeling that their child has to be working from 9am-3pm each day. In a homeschooling environment, you can cover the same ground at year 4 in 2-3 hours.

Think it’s rubbish that they have not been in touch at all. Our school’s provision during the first lockdown was abysmal. Death by worksheet and no communication whatsoever. This time we have had a letter explaining what they are going to be doing which is much better but they’re working up to it being fully ready by the 18th. But the first two weeks’ online learning was already on the website ready to go before Boris even shut the schools.

Kids are y1 and y3 it is taking us all day (9-3ish) to get through it all, but that’s because they both need one on one attention. I’m trying to run a business part time and it would be brilliant if somehow we could get it all out of the way in the morning. Yr 3 son will work independently a bit but only to a certain point. I am having to bribe them by saying that the amount of “tablet time” they get at the end of the day is directly dependent on their efforts earlier
