Stupid delivery drivers in London with no face coverings!

Just need a rant.

Me my boyfriend and 10 week old daughter caught covid recently. We have been so careful, shielded, never gone out apart from the supermarket this whole year, if we left the flat ALWAYS had a mask on. My boyfriend has multiple sclerosis and is on immunosuppressents so had been super careful. Washed and bleached every peice of shopping or delivery that come through the door. If anything have been too careful. Anyway we ended up somehow catching it over xmas (I know it's super spreadable this virus but have no clue how we got it)

Anyway, we live in a block of 60 flats. There are a some very elderly here too. EVERY SINGLE DAY 99% of the time every single delivery driver plus post man NEVER wear masks. Walking through our communal corridors with no ventilation. It's starting to really fcling pss me off. In the past 3 days we have had 3 deliverys. 2 DPD one DHL and they knock on the door each time with no mask, no standing back or distancing to which I instantly close it and they are telling me they need my name. I get they need it but they can wear a mask or fck off! We live in London we moved here a year before the pandemic as it was suitable for work and our borough has been the worst in London for about 6 months. Its fcking driving me insane how ignorant people are and dont seem to care about this virus or protecting other people.

There are quite a few elderly in this building too. It makes me paranoid I literally feel sick if I have to go out with baby etc. I have to put a blanket over her head while we walk out the flats. I see it all day every day them coming in and out and honest to god never wearing masks !

Why are people so selfish Angry just needed a rant. I get some people think this virus is over the top in there opinion but for some its not and can be so serious ! The lack of respect is really getting to me. I done everything in my power to protect our baby and us and it didnt work probably due to people being selfish and doing what they want.

Anyone else have this issue? Angry

@CharleyBaker - wearing a mask protects others

CharleyBaker · 09/01/2021 17:44

@MerciSeat

Do you wear a mask when answering the door, OP?
Yes.
WhiteChocCheesecakeRocks · 09/01/2021 17:50

My friend lives in a block she asked her housing company if masks to be worn in communal areas and they said no.

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/01/2021 18:00

Can you ask your bulls if management to put up signs outside saying face masks must be worn in communal areas or one saying delivery drivers please wear face masks

OverTheRainbow88 · 09/01/2021 18:01

I meant building management

confuseddotcom090 · 09/01/2021 18:07

I think you are putting far too much faith in masks.

They're not magic. They don't stop anyone catching anything and if they have any impact at all on spreading virus from someone who is shedding, it is absolutely minimal.

Stop stressing about the masks. They are not the answer.

CharleyBaker · 09/01/2021 18:09

@MerciSeat

Yes.
mimi0708 · 09/01/2021 18:10

Yes maybe write to building management to have wear a mask sign. I live in a block of flats and we have a few vulnerable people here and we have a wear a mask rule inside the block.

mimi0708 · 09/01/2021 18:13

And to people saying masks don't help, there are already plenty of studies how they help in reducing transmission and they especially help in buildings where ventilation is bad.

yeOldeTrout · 09/01/2021 18:38

The help is small though, so is it really worth getting angry about? Especially when talking about < 20 seconds of possible exposure.

Spanielmadness · 09/01/2021 18:42

If you don’t want delivery guys coming to your door, don’t order things to be delivered. You sound far more anxious than you need to be. You can’t catch it from walking through a corridor someone else has walked through.........

The OP lives in a block of 60 flats.

So while she may not order anything she can't stop the 59 other households in the building doing so.

Due to the large number of flats in the block she won't know when a deliver driver is in the building to avoid them in the hallways, lift and/or stairs.

luckylavender · 09/01/2021 18:53

I wonder why we're in so much trouble when there is such a lackadaisical attitude to mask wearing just on this thread. We need all the weapons in our armoury. And the first three are Hands Face Space. For good reason.

Mabe1991 · 09/01/2021 19:23

@Spanielmadness we need essentials of course I am going to order stuff. It's not my fault that there are some ignorant idiotic people who fail to wear masks. Far more anxious? I have a young baby and a boyfriend on immunosuppressents.. and I should be relaxed about this how?

@MerciSeat yes we have a hook right inside the door full of masks to put on when opening the door. Not that I should need to do this in my own home if people coming into a communal building actually done the decent thing..

@luckylavender that's right! it's actually shocking to see so many people so careless thinking this is wrong! No wonder so many people are catching it when there are so many careless people around saying masks dont work.

@yeOldeTrout 20 seconds exposure? WOW. Walking through non ventilated stairwells and corridors with no mask? Then following that a vunerable personal coming through and catching it. 20 seconds is more than enough. Its spread by breathing not just coughing etc.

I honestly cant believe the ignorance of some people on here. Leaving this thread its terrible how some of you think. Doctors have said countless times wearing a mask stops you spreading it by up to 80%.

"Doctors say".
That is not evidence. Cartoons of people pissing in their trousers are not evidence. Videos of people coughing with and without masks are not evidence. They are theories and presumptions.

Evidence is a randomised controlled trial that shows fewer people catch the virus when everyone is masked vs when nobody is masked.

The Danish did a 6000 person study that showed no statistically significant effect. That is the closest thing we have although it only looked at protecting the individual rather than others.

Where is the evidence?

Bettydot · 10/01/2021 08:11

I can understand your worry but also you should now have some protection as you’ve all had it. It sounds like you’re also worried about others in your building so I’d try contacting the people who manage your building to see if they can put a sign on the main doors. You could also use a mask when you open the door, I’ve worn one this week while unloading my food delivery. I’ve also mastered opening the door from the largest possible distance and stepping straight back. Finally could you pop a note on your door asking delivery drivers to kindly pop your parcel outside the door and step 2 meters down the corridor. I hope your husband fully recovers soon. I’m sorry your little one was so poorly.

LastTrainEast · 10/01/2021 08:16

The Royal Mail guy here insists on putting parcels in my hand. I've tried to get him to put them on the floor and walk away, but he's not having it.

I'm in a flat too so he must sometimes pass people on the stairs and he won't wear a mask.

I have one on to open the door these days so I'm not terribly worried, but what does he think he is doing?

Seatbelts are not magic either. I've heard of people who drove into things and died even while they wore a seatbelt so people shouldn't have to wear them either.

I bet if I looked on youtube I could find people saying just that alongside the people saying mask don't matter.

AnneElliott · 10/01/2021 10:02

That's not on, but I'm not surprised. I was in the chemist and a delivery driver came inside with it under his chin! In a chemist! Everyone else wearing one.

He got quite shirty when I asked him to put it on.

That's actually not true about the Danish study.

From www.politifact.com

"Public health officials have long recommended wearing face-coverings to help slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"But some who oppose measures such as mask mandates are pointing to a study conducted in Denmark in April and May as evidence that masks are ineffective against the virus.

"'The first randomized controlled trial of more than 6,000 individuals to assess the effectiveness of surgical face masks against SARS-CoV-2 infection found masks did not statistically significantly reduce the incidence of infection,' reads one viral Instagram post that features an excerpt from a longer blog post on the same topic.

"The post was flagged as part of Facebook’s and Instagram’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on News Feeds. (Read more about our partnership with Facebook.)

"The Instagram claim misconstrues the results of the study, published Nov. 18 in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

"First, it’s important to note that the public health recommendation in favor of wearing masks hinges on evidence that masks help minimize spread of respiratory droplets from reaching others through the air. But the Denmark study was focused on the results for the wearer. It was designed 'to assess whether recommending surgical mask use outside the home reduces wearers' risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection in a setting where masks were uncommon,' according to the study’s abstract."

I've had this from a maskless guy delivering my NHS-prescribed refrigerated specialist immunosuppressive drugs ffs.

I wasn't impressed.

lurklemurkle · 10/01/2021 10:24

Agree with contacting building management. For now, could you just print off a simple sign and stick it on the front door yourself?

PLEASE WEAR A MASK - VULNERABLE PEOPLE
