Critical workers please

Are critical workers aware of this advice?

Please please follow it if you can. Lockdown will last longer if more children attend school.

Keep your children at home if you can. It's hard isn't an excuse, it's hard for everyone it's a pandemic

Critical workers please

@Oeliilio **Others I know in the NHS are cracking up mentally as they have been told to work ‘opposite shifts’ to keep the kids home. Imagine that. 10/12 shifts. Either working or looking after young children. Nearly zero time in your life to sleep. My friend is an A&E nurse and sleeps about 2am-6am and a nap of around an hour. Could you honestly do that long term?

This is what we did in March lockdown for over 6 months and had to spread it across 7 day weeks to have children at home - but desk jobs working from home! It’s not just out of home shift work that have been stuck this way but not much awareness of it: And we are not alone so many people did it as there is not enough time in the day to have 2 parents full time working plus childcare/home schooling, and so many will be doing it this lockdown too. Hence this time cannot take on the mental strain and burnout of it when a critical workers place is available, obviously if a space wasn’t available we wouldn’t take it but it is and the mental damage of not taking it up is just too huge

Ok - I give up. You don’t have a need to send a child to school if one parent is at home. If you can’t work out a way to do your job and home school then that’s unfortunate. Why should the children of critical workers who are both working out of the home (and their families and school staff) be put at a higher health risk because of you?

Oh do be quite
Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:21

It’s not even really those working from home I have a problem with (though i think an awful lot of parents are just preferring to get their chidlren out of their hair). It’s the non vulnerable chidlren who have a sahp who still send them in just because the other parent is a key worker!

Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:22

Why should I be quiet? Just because I don’t agree with you? How odd?!

Doggotired · 09/01/2021 11:22

I am a key worker, I am a lone parent, my daughters school ask for proof from line manager before they give you a place. I don’t want my daughter to be in school with other key workers children but what other choice is there. We are all aware of the rules, nobody I know is taking the piss. Why would you risk you and your families health for nothing. These threads are so utterly boring and tedious now. We all know the rules and those who break them don’t care enough to read your post anyway

You’ll make yourself ill getting so wound up about it.
Oeliilio · 09/01/2021 11:23

@Hophop26 I in no way judge you for not running yourself to the ground. I wonder how many people getting very ill are entering the illness on a lack of sleep, poor diet and lack of sleep. We know that’s linked to poorer outcomes. There’s a balance.

All of this 👌
Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:24

and I do know how hard it is. I am a teacher working in school full time as is my husband who is working doing virtual learning at home full time and I STILL won’t send mine in (one has an Ehcp) as I believe it is totally unfair on the teachers and other school staff

Ok .... I literally cannot do my job with my child at home and the school are expecting me to sit with him and help him with work ...employers were understanding last time so not this time ... my husband is out doing shifts so I am not going to feel guilty this time if I was a Sahm then I wouldn't send him in but I am not
Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:25

Nah - more likely to get ill from the amount of children I teach every day whose parents I know are just lying about their ‘critical’ worker space

Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:25

But you expect teachers to become ill for the greater good of everyone at home?

Spiratedaway · 09/01/2021 11:26

@Wontdothisagain

Oh do fuck off *@Helpmyhair2019* small children have had accidents in the home because their parents were on work bloody call and meetings and unable to supervise.

You wouldn't expect anyone to take a small toddler or child into work with them would you?

Employers are running out of patience.

No parent in their right mind is going to risk losing their income for the greater good anymore.

Thank you !!! Truly fucked of with teachers going on about themselves when my partner is putting himself at risk too every day !!! Without the proper ppe
Jijithecat · 09/01/2021 11:26

Yes thanks, hence why my kids have been in school this week.

I'm wondering how many people starting these threads have blithely been ignoring much of the guidance and merrily mixing with their families over Christmas.

Yep all about the teachers screw everyone else
lollipoprainbow · 09/01/2021 11:27

@Doggotired totally agree

stayingaliveisawayoflife · 09/01/2021 11:27

It is all very variable and that is partly the problem. I have nearly 20 children in my class but just down the corridor they have 5. We do have some that are coming in because they qualify but are actually coming in for social reasons. I have not had COVID yet and am scared but I will be in on Monday doing my job. There are as many cars parked outside our school as pre lock down so that does worry me. The travelling and moving around and socialising that goes alongside the school still being open.

NailsNeedDoing · 09/01/2021 11:27

I agree with you OP. We have parents who have sent their children in through choice, not necessity, but because the government guidelines say that only one parent has to be a key worker and we have the space, I will spend the next few weeks looking after and educating children who have a SAHP, doing no wfh.

I’ll also be working with children who have an extra need to be in school and those whose parents are out there fighting the good fight, and I’m more than happy to be able to do my bit to support them.

Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:27

But how if your husband putting himself at risk any more important than the teacher putting themselves at risk? Surely it’s crap for both sides?

copernicium · 09/01/2021 11:27

I think there are two parties though. The nurse who just worked five night shifts and deserves a rest day, and the mum who got a 5 hour contract in Sainsbury's...

Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:28

And I’m not saying screw anyone else. Is that not what you it saying ‘screw school staff, my job is more important?’

lollipoprainbow · 09/01/2021 11:28

@Helpmyhair2019 I suggest your school completes more robust checks then! We had to send in proof of our employment to the school to get a place.

Helpmyhair2019 · 09/01/2021 11:28

Exactly. You’ve put it across much better than me!
