What extra precautions should we be taking?

We’ve been told that the new variant is more transmissible and usual precautions aren’t working so what extra things should we be doing? And what exactly does more transmissible mean? Can we get the new variant just by passing someone outdoors for instance?

Unless I’ve missed it, I haven’t seen any guidance.......

What extra precautions should we be taking?

  1. If you are an adult, take 4000 IU of vitamin D3 daily.
  2. Get your serum levels tested by the online pinprick test from NHS West Midlands website.
  3. Make sure your level is at least 100 nmol/L or 40 ng/mL
  4. If your children don't eat fish every day, they should supplement with 800 IU
  5. Normal multivitamins which include zinc and vitamin K would also be useful

Hundreds of top scientists, doctors on the frontline, professors and researchers agree with this and have signed a letter pleading governments to take action. The majority of these people are from UK, European, US etc

vitamind4all.org/letter.pdf

If you are worried about the dose, bear in mind that your body assimilates 10,000 to 20,000 IU after a day on a sunny beach in the tropics.

If all UK adults took these precautions, we probably would be out of the lockdown in under three weeks.

@MerciSeat

Very short reply. Rather lacking in any scientific evidence :)

The first randomised clinical trial results on covid 19 admissions following high dose vitamin D were published last October.

Vitamin D reduced the risk of ICU admission 25-fold.

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0960076020302764

''Conclusion:
Our pilot study demonstrated that administration of a high dose of Calcifediol or 25-hydroxyvitamin D, a main metabolite of vitamin D endocrine system, significantly reduced the need for ICU treatment of patients requiring hospitalization due to proven COVID-19. Calcifediol seems to be able to reduce severity of the disease.''

There's also at least 40 further studies showing similar results here:

Have reverted to wearing a disposable, rather than fabric, mask.

Am also now debating whether to start wearing disposable gloves again to discourage myself from inadvertently touching my face while I’m out shopping.

For anyone who prefers results from UK studies, peer reviewed and published a month ago:

www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/12/12/3799/pdf

This was conducted on British patients in Preston, Leicester and Tameside.

The use of vitamin D3 in these British patients undoubtedly saved lives - there was 7 times LESS mortality:

'Treatment with cholecalciferol booster therapy, regardless of baseline serum 25(OH)D levels, appears to be associated with a reduced risk of mortality in acute in-patients admitted with COVID-19. Further work with large population studies needs to be carried out to determine adequate serum 25(OH)D levels, as well as multi-dose clinical trials of cholecalciferol therapy to assess maximum efficacy.'

This was a pretty big study on 986 patients. Who knows why it hasn't been highlighted in the media.

Can we stop professional football for a start? I have no idea why it is still permitted. Lack of social distancing (they're still hugging and jumping all over each other after a goal) and several outbreaks. Hardly an essential industry.

Quite a few suggestions here so thanks all. I guess the thing I’m finding a bit perplexing is the government telling us it’s more transmissible but not really saying why / what that means and what is needed now to limit spread. It’s obvious that cloth masks are pretty useless but there’s not really much guidance in this regard and also that we should all be taking supplements to reduce impact of covid should we get it - again no health campaign to encourage people to do this. It’s poor that there are simple things we could be doing but many people just don’t realise.

Should say it’s poor of the government not to try and educate people

I bought a pack of medical grade disposable face masks and have considered wearing one underneath my fabric mask next time I go food shopping.

We always carry and use hand gel or spray anyway but I also spray and clean the trolley handles myself.

My dc haven't been anywhere other than a walk daily around our small village since Monday and I've been to Aldi once to do a decent food shop.

I've had a bit of a go at my mum this afternoon as today they popped to Asda ,yesterday they popped to Sainsbury's and the day before that they popped tontesco Hmm
