Trip to DD uni accommodation-not halls

Dd came home during the last lockdown in Nov (South East) as she was having MH problems and couldn’t cope. The uni advised us to collect her. It was all a bit rushed and she grabbed everything she thought she’d need.
She has online exams for the next 3 weeks, where she needs to use her textbooks for reference but had left them in her accommodation. I took her to get them today to was a 2.5hr round trip. I didn’t get out of the car, she wore her mask and was 10 minutes getting them. Her flat mate is still at home, so flat was empty. I know it’s too late now, but wondered if you this this is reasonable?

I can't link but the updated lockdown guidance says that students should stay at home but can return to their accommodation to collect medical equipment or items required for online learning if needed. I had the same situation so was pleased to see that they had thought to include it. Many students will have returned home without their books and notes. It was supposed to be a Christmas break for them after all. Definitely permitted.

As you didn’t get out of the car then risk of you having contributed to the current dire situation Is minuscule, however, you could have broken down, had an accident, needed the loo etc and that’s why no non essential journeys is the rule. I think I would have downloaded the books on line or ordered new copies to be delivered. Or asked landlord to post them on? May be reasons not possible though.

It's totally reasonable as you are supporting a vulnerable person. Dont feel like you need validation from strangers online, your daughters mental health and education are more important.

I would have tried to buy copies first as would have been cheaper and less covid risky. If unavailable then I would’ve gone to get them.

@SnowmanDrinkingSnowballs I did ask her to see if she could borrow them from the library online but she said they weren’t available.
@ThankyouPeter oh that’s good to hear

@Msmcc1212 yes I was worried about breaking down or having an accident and putting others at risk. Didn’t think about the landlord though, good point.

I'm doing a similar trip tomorrow for the same reason! No flatmates in so shouldnt bump into anyone.

Thanks all, feeling calmer. I’d been mulling it over and over. Especially considering the death toll today.
