If you come into contact with some who has covid you then get tested every day for 7 days and carry on regardless at work or school.
How can this be ok? What happened to 14 days isolation? Why only 7 days of testing?

There is for schools. It’s in the schools testing handbook that you must isolate over the weekend and if you choose not to have the 7 days of testing then you must isolate for the full 10 days.

UncomfortableSilence · 08/01/2021 21:48

@noblegiraffe

I didn’t know it was happening in workplaces, where is that?

It’s a fucking appalling idea for schools especially as the tests don’t work.

The 7 days in school is school days so 9 day period but not tested at the weekend.

It's happening in my school, got an email today starting next week. Staff initially and kids that are currently in Confused
Cocopogo · 08/01/2021 21:48

Well it’s not at my school

The grey box on page 3 of the document at 21.40 talks about the weekends.

Yeah that’s assuming schools and workplaces haven’t made their own rules up, which given the state of gov guidelines and very little info, most have

Tests aren’t in our school - we are primary.

Tupla · 09/01/2021 09:01

I think this is shocking and very worrying. There have been various reports about the lateral flow tests not being very sensitive about picking up cases (including one study which found that in real world use they only picked up 3% of cases!). On top of that, we're dealing with this more infectious strain. I can understand the practical reasons behind it, but I don't think this is the right time when cases are so high and spreading so easily. I suppose a decision has been made that the amount of illness and death due to this measure will not make a significant impact on the NHS, but I think at the moment that's unknown, and with the NHS already struggling it would be best to stick to isolating close contacts.

yoyo1234 · 09/01/2021 09:27

For NHS staff lateral flow tests are done at home ( so not risking coming in-also to be done as a routine so biweekly). The tests done daily will increase chance of getting a correct positive even if they are not that accurate- but if you are coming in and spreading it after false negatives ( or not having yet developed a positive result than obviously this will greatly increase spread).

CKBJ · 09/01/2021 22:52

The article fills me with great faith-NOT! DfE can’t produce accurate figures and arguably attempted to use misleading figures. Also they can’t even agree if the tests are mandatory or not! How can anyone have faith in them?!

Lougle · 09/01/2021 22:55

It very clearly does state that people should isolate if they can't be tested on any particular day.

Cocopogo · 11/01/2021 20:39

Yes it does but that isn’t what schools are telling people to do

It might not be what your school is saying, but the staff briefing I was on was clear.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/01/2021 21:12

It should be what all schools are saying. It's clear in the guidance.

twinkletoesimnot · 11/01/2021 21:17

It's totally crap- either you don't have to isolate or you do! And I agree with @noblegiraffe
The fact that kids need to travel in on buses is pure madness!

TheFallenMadonna · 11/01/2021 21:20

It is to increase attendance and stop eg whole year groups having to self isolate. And keep staff in. Now it will be so children of critical workers don't have to stay home.
