Hygiene standards

My understanding of this virus and the rising cases is that many people mixed with family and friends over the Christmas and that is the reason for rising cases.

Is there poor hygiene standards and poor cough and sneeze etiquette from parts of the population for rising cases to occur?

I see poor hygiene standards from some people.

I was in a hotel back in October having lunch and in the bathroom there was someone at the sink. She didn't wash her hands properly. She dipped her hands quickly under the running tap and that was that.

My own mother refuses to cover her mouth when she's coughing and sneezing. A lot of her cough is environmental and dust related.

My in laws made a slight attempt over Christmas and coughed into their hands. My understanding is coughing into hands is a nono because hands are used to open handles and turn taps and there's more risk for containmented surfaces.

I sneezed the other day and I was wesring a mask. I left the mask on and my face went right into my elbow for the sneeze trying to contain any droplets.

This pandemic isn't new. We have been dealing with this since last March. There were campaigns from government and health officials on TV and radio on appropriate etiquette. Surely everybody should know what to do now and how to behave with personal hygiene? Theres some excuse for older people with dementia anf for others with intellectual conditions not being able to cough and sneeze and wash hands appropriately.

Some people don't even believe that there is any pandemic at all.

People come with a huge range in their ability to think at all, let alone comprehend or discriminate.

I think the main reason for rising cases from the Christmas mixing is that lots of people were in small, poorly ventilated indoor spaces for long periods of time, breathing in each others air (and viruses ).

Not sure, I half agree as some people have terrible hygiene which helps spreads the virus. However I am a germaphobe and wash my hands A LOT (even pre-pandemic) and sneeze into my elbow or tissue but I still ended up catching it. The person who I caught it from hadn’t even developed a cough until the next day so literally caught it just from breathing the same air, no sneezing/coughing/touching etc. so can’t always blame bad hygiene

Asymptomatic spread just breathing the same air. No coughing or sneezing or hand washing needed. Just breathing.
If you wear a mask the particles don’t go as far, have an extra barrier to go through (why triple layer recommended).
