Vaccines for under 50s?

Hi, does anyone know if there any plans in the UK to vaccinate under 50s without any health conditions and not working in health or social care?

I know Kate Bingham was quoted as saying that it's for over 50s only and most vaccines apart from Oxford have been ordered to cover 30 million people.

I just wish our govt would be honest about this and at least give us some sort of timeline even if it is in 2022.

Is anyone else under 50 worried about never being able to get a vaccine? (obviously after all vulnerable and healthcare staff have been protected!).

They've already said under 50s will get it.

In phase 2 - which is the phase I which they may choose to prioritise people according to their profession (e.g. teachers, police etc)

If you're under 50, and don't have any underlying conditions (or work in a care home) you are a much lower priority - the government have been very transparent about this - see here

It's going to be months before all these groups are vaccinated, so it's impossible to put a specific timing against the remaining age groups.

They say they have ordered enough for everyone to have vaccine.

Everyone will get it eventually, but I think on the mainland it's a question of when. I'm watching our Chief Minister (Jersey) right now, who's set out our vaccination programme for everyone over 50 to have had their first dose by March 29th, and for everyone between 18 and 49 to have their first by July 12th, and everyone will have had their second dose by September 6th. (Unlike Matt Hancock, they've nailed their reputations to the mast with actual dates!).

Currently, Jersey is 3rd in the world (only behind Israel and Bahrain) in rates of vaccinations per 100 people in the population, so in one way that's great... except, where the hell are we going to be able to go, even if we're vaccinated by the summer, but other places still haven't. So, really, until the UK catches us up we're still trapped on our little bit of 9x5 mile granite for another few months.

However, good news if the new one-dose vaccine in the news today is approved - that will help a lot if it can be done more quickly in a single jab. Fingers crossed that comes online soon, as that will really help the 18-49 age group in the next few months.

But OP, you will get your vaccine, even if it's not as soon as you'd like. None of this is ideal, but it's a lot better than it was in March.
