I will scream if one more person says or writes ‘stay safe’

I’m sick of it! I walk round the supermarket and their sound systems are playing through messages about ‘keeping you safe in our store’. Every email at work is signed ‘stay safe’, Halfords even just sent me a spam email about ‘Staying safe’

Omfg I can’t deal with it anymore!! I remember last year when being safe meant not walking out in front of a car or failing onto a train track, avoiding murderers and not walking home alone in the dark!.

Now all that staying safe means and is measured against is not catching Covid!!! It feels like complete brainwashing

Oh and don’t get me started on ‘Protect the NHS’.

@Iheartmysmart

Yep, could agree with you more. Gives me an overwhelming desire to say fuck off.
Absolutely. ‘Stay at home’, ‘stay at home save lives’ are also a load of bollocks. Meaningless government propaganda.
CommanderBurnham · 07/01/2021 23:47

Didn't realise I was causing so much offence when telling people to stay safe. I genuinely mean it when I say it to them. That I love them and want them to take care of themselves, cos frankly it's really hard to look out for people in the way I would like to, and people sometimes don't put themselves first.

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 07:22

You what @Lucidas 😂😂

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 08/01/2021 07:36

Depends who it’s from.

On an email from an online business, it seems odd but inoffensive.

On an email from a friend I take it to mean that they care/miss me/love me. That’s what I mean if I put it.

Pootle40 · 08/01/2021 07:41

@ServeTheServants

I couldn’t agree more! Mindless drivel
THIS
Pootle40 · 08/01/2021 07:42

@Timbucktime

I so agree with you. I just want to respond to tell them I’ve never felt unsafe.
Yes 👏🏻 I completely agree
Cripesitsthegasman19 · 08/01/2021 07:42

Yes, it's been irritating me for months. Honestly thought I was the only one.

Snowvid19 · 08/01/2021 07:49

YANBU OP. Meaningless platitude.

mrsrobin · 08/01/2021 08:16

i'm with you all! Am glad to hear it irritates others, I also thought I was alone in this!

LucilleTheVampireBat · 08/01/2021 08:20

Agree.

Stay safe.
Stay (the fuck) at home.
Hope this email finds you well.
Strange/unprecedented times.
NHS on its knees/NHS will collapse/NHS will fall over.
Tell that to such and such.

Can all get in the fucking sea.

This is my irrational pet hat at the moment too. I always want to reply with 'safe is overrated' or 'dont tell me what to do!'.

I don't obviously, as it's meant very well.

chaosrabbitland · 08/01/2021 08:36

yes agreed , it drives me mad , i get told it a fair few times a day as im a sales assistant in an essential store , bless i know the customers mean well , but as someone else said its mindless drivel and its also a pointless phrase as how the fuck can we actually stay safe ? i mean yeah masks , hand washing yeah yeah , but unless we imprison ourselves in the house for the next 2 months its a bit hard .

Igglepigglesgrubbyblanket · 08/01/2021 08:36

Pet hat 🤣 pet hate!!

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 09:12

@Whatnowwhat

It's fine, I have absolutely NO DESIRE to say 'stay safe' to either of you.

Feel free to play on the motorway[/quote]
Get a life 😂😂

Tanith · 08/01/2021 09:49

"That’s sweet, people more cynical than I would say it’s because you bought something but not I."

Doesn't matter. They didn't have to write anything at all.

No they didn’t and they didn’t have to be ordered from at all either.
Tanith · 08/01/2021 09:59

"No they didn’t and they didn’t have to be ordered from at all either."

Afraid they did. I said "supplier".

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 11:17

Oh so the sole supplier of your item 😌 no wonder they are cheerful.

donewithitnow · 08/01/2021 11:19

I have "stayed safe". still caught Covid thoughGrin

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 11:30

And as I said I think it’s sweet and I’m glad it made you happy still not the phrase being discussed anyway.

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 11:30

You didn’t stay safe correctly clearly 😂
donewithitnow · 08/01/2021 11:34

caught it from Dh who got it from work. I have only left the house twice this yearGrin

Fembot123 · 08/01/2021 11:40

😁 Glad you’re doing ok

Ginseng1 · 08/01/2021 11:43

So many phrases from this year I cringe when I hear them. I won't drag the whole list out again but you know what they are! Sometimes they spill out of my mouth inadvertantly though 🤭 is like they programmed in my brain.
