Who the hell can keep this up til Easter (or beyond)?

We’re only on day 3. I have a splitting headache from trying to work out what the hell I’m supposed to do on the classroom learning platform, as I can’t log on to see DS’s work. Oak keeps freezing for 45 minutes and there is no timely feedback from the class teacher, DS (year 5) has to comment online and wait for an answer which could be late at night. And I wfh full time in a non flexible role involving large fund transfers that I definitely can’t screw up. DH works full time out of the home as a keyworker.

And now we are supposed to be present for 2 registrations a day? What if I have a medical / dental / vet appointment? I have to take DS he’s too young to be left alone for hours. It’s completely unreasonable to give him an unauthorised absence mark. Not allowed to ask anyone to look after him as no one allowed to!

I can’t see how parents can be punished for not being able to meet all these expectations. How is home learning beneficial if we end up without a roof over our heads and our pet dies because we couldn’t get to the vet?

Anyone else feeling a bit desperate about the prospect of trying their best but failing on all levels for months on end?

As an aside, if Oak is freezing, try restarting your browser and if that doesn't work restarting the whole computer will sometimes fix that issue.

I'm sorry OP, it's shit. I'm a home educator and really feel for parents who are having to re-create schooling at home but with little to no support and all these obligations to check in, do various faffing about and worksheets etc. It's the worst of both worlds! At least home edders, while receiving no financial or learning support, can still basically get on with things in the way they see fit, in their own time and around other obligations/feeling like going out for a walk while there is daylight and so on. I hope you find a way to reduce some of the pressure, I doubt they will take you to court. And I'm really sorry you're so stressed Flowers

@Frozenintime

Be there for the registration part and only do the rest if it's possible
Why do you have to be there for the registration part? Tell them you're working in a different (part of the) room and it's the child who's on roll, not you. A year 5 child is perfectly capable of logging onto the school system and saying they're there.

I agree. You sound incredibly stressed and your son will feel that too. I know it's hard but your heightened stress is giving you headaches and causing you to catastrophise about dental appointments and "pets dying"!

Most teachers are parents and understand the pressures most are under right now. It doesn't have to be all or nothing with home schooling. No need to tell them Fuck it, I'm out! Wink just do what you can (and breathe).

I have to keep reminding myself, there is an end to this. We've done it this long..and take each day or week as it comes rather than focusing too far ahead. It is shit I know.

Insisting on having a bit of down time in the evening for yourself and agreeing that with dh if possible would help. Or time out the house at the weekend to excercise/de- stress ?

If you do have a medical or appointment at the vets for when registration is due just telephone the school or email and let them know.

You can also use childcare for your child if necessary.

Me too. I’m a sahm and I can’t cope after the 2nd day. I have to hang around in the background as the website keeps crashing, or she doesn’t understand, or the cameras not working. And hearing the kids robotic answering voices and the teachers un-convincing “well done, that’s great guys!” Is doing my head in!

How you could wFH at the same time I’ve no idea.

It sounds tough, but I think you need to have a drink & some painkillers, before thinking about it all. I don't want to sound like Pollyanna & I'm not minimising the nightmare it is for you, but ...

Now you know what DS's school are asking for hopefully you can schedule appointments around the registrations (as you would have with school drop off/pick up)

If an emergency comes up, just message his teacher 'Dog ate Lego going to vets. DS Back ASAP'.

Once you sort out the logging in, that should stay sorted.

When DS is waiting for teacher feedback - set him free to play and check hourly (or so) for feedback. If this is holding DS back from getting on with work, let the teacher know.

Cant do much about Oak, except let DS do something else while it sorts itself out.
