Hypocricy and new clapping for heroes

Obviously a contentous topic so honestly interested in how others (especially NHS etc. Staff feel)
First off I am truly grateful for all the keyworkers doing a truly incredible job right now, making sacrifices etc.
The media coverage of the hospitals atm is truly heartbreaking and humbling
But....do we need this again? The ritual virtue signalling which seems so hypocritical?
Nearly everyone of my immediate neighbours houses has been like piccadilly circus over Christmas/ new year. NOT bubbles several cars and parties but I bet you they will be out hitting saucepans in full force.
Yes I realise that staff need a lift ( some cringe at it too)
This hypocrisy also extends to friends and family too. Already posting on fb 'save the NHS' etc. While they stretch the rules to suit.
Clap for a pay rise for key workers/ care staff better conditions/ sick pay for NHS and keyworkers off still with long covid caught at work.
Volunteer to be a vaccinator steward, make scrubs, offer support to struggling staff in hospitals, stop mixing beyond the rules anything other than hitting a fucking saucepan at 8pm. There are other ways of gratitude?

Don't think there's much enthusiasm TBH.

I don't think that everyone who dies this is virtue signalling, although many are.

My elderly parents, for example, see this as a way of showing their appreciation to key workers, and an opportunity to join in something each week with their community.

I don't do it, as I can see all the negatives, and would rather see those people rewarded for their efforts.

As an aside, my DD works with Covid patients in a hospital. All they got at Christmas as a thank you was a postcard. Angry

does not dies

I work for the NHS and I absolutely hate it. i want to crawl under the bed and die.

Snog · 07/01/2021 12:20

We need to pay our key workers more and our chief execs less.

Clapping is not enough and I won't be doing it.

I think it's patronising as hell and I refused to do it first time round. I just couldn't reconcile myself with the message of "we know you don't have the resources you need, we know you are putting yourselves at risk with insufficient PPE and testing, we know half the population are refusing to follow guidelines and we know your pay has been on a downward spiral for over a decade but here, have a clap".
