Where are the happy lockdown people?

Last week the coronavirus topic was rammed with people shrieking and screaming WE NEED LOCKDOWN, SCHOOLS MUST CLOSE! It was awful.
Now it's happened, they've got what the wanted, but where are they? All I can see now is miserable posts, about how horrible lockdown is, and how bad school closures are. (I agree with these posts, I opposed lockdown and school closures).
I wonder if the happy people have quietly sloped off to relax and read books....

Shall I hazard a guess? The people who wanted lockdown are not the ones complaining now. I predicted that our school's provision would be rubbish and I was right, sadly.

It's possible to hold both views at the same time, isn't it?
To want a lockdown to keep people safe and prevent the NHS being overwhelmed and, still find the actual practicalities of lockdown life really hard and wish for a magic wand to make the pandemic go away...

midgebabe · 07/01/2021 11:28

Erm

Why should the people who wanted lockdown be happy?

Can't you understand, they wanted lockdown because the alternative is Much Worse

They can still hate every moment of it

Think of it as medicine, chemotherapy, it has to be done but you don't expect a cancer sufferer to be happy about it. Just relieved if they are getting treatment

frozendaisy · 07/01/2021 11:30

Would rather our kids in school, but right now, watching the 10pm news, ITU beds filling, I'm glad they are home.

Both of their schools have ramped up online learning, they are doing full days, as per their timetables.

I am not "happy" because this lockdown is needed because of a global pandemic.

And yes we are lucky, yes we have online resources for both, yes H is still getting full wages, yes I can be here full time with kids.

Our NHS consultant mates are in despair and us mere mortals can only try to stay out of ITU to help them. So that is what we are going to try to do.

I have made my peace with this lockdown because I really don't see an alternative.

glitterelf · 07/01/2021 11:31

Probably doing what lots of other parents are doing and supervising and supporting remote learning. Most people who wanted schools closed didn't want them closed for selfish reasons but for the safety of all. It's all good and well people spouting how children rarely become ill what about the teachers ? 30 plus people crammed into small rooms and knowing that children spread it ?

TheGreatWave · 07/01/2021 11:31

Those shouting loudest for lockdown are generally those least affected by it.

ArosAdraDrosDolig · 07/01/2021 11:32

I enjoyed the first lockdown.
This time round the expectations on parents, children and teachers are making it a living hell.

Anyone using that expression should be locked down for life. Grin
TooTrueToBeGood · 07/01/2021 11:33

Why does it bother you? I can only assume you are desperate to have pointless arguments with people who hold different views from you. Perhaps another hobby would do you some good.

CarrieCat · 07/01/2021 11:34

They wanted it because hospitals are becoming overwhelmed not because they love lockdown

Athinginitself · 07/01/2021 11:35

This. I felt we needed a lockdown, I'm not happy or enjoying it or having a nice time.
Meruem · 07/01/2021 11:50

I didn't shout for Lockdown, although I do think there's no alternative at this point. I am neither happy nor unhappy. I don't have school age DC, so the situation with schools doesn't affect me at all. Yes I want life to get back to "normal" but anyone could see we were going to lockdown again after Christmas. It was inevitable. I'm surprised so many people seem shocked/unprepared etc.

NHSmummy84 · 07/01/2021 11:55

I wanted school closures and full lockdown. I work in the NHS and I’m a single parent. I know the decisions will never please everyone, but I’m glad that the decision was made. The hospital where I work has a higher number of covid positive patients than at the April peak, with a higher proportion of those requiring assistance with breathing. So personally, I think this lockdown was a bit late (probably to let us have a little resemblance of a Christmas).

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 07/01/2021 11:58

I wanted lockdown because it's necessary, not because I thought it would be fun!
I'm not "happy" about it, but I am relieved that something is being done.

Although it does seem pretty halfhearted and if threads on here are anything to go by and schools are 2/3 full it seems pretty pointless.

I didn't want it because I could see that kids would still be mixing. Sure enough despite it being minus 1 there a group of 12 teens playing basketball opposite, have been for nearly 2 hours. Actually those teens are probably not at risk but I'm sure others are round their mates houses, not distancing, whereas in school they would be learning, could be told to mask even in the classroom and behaviour could be monitored at least in school hours.

Then there's the neighbours kids who are at different houses each day because school wouldn't give them places and they need to work (he works away from home not considered a key worker but can't get time off, she's a social worker so is dealing with delicate situations and might need to go on emergency calls so she has compacted her hours to 4 days, had her kids and 4 other families on her day off and the other families similar!)

Xerochrysum · 07/01/2021 12:06

I didn't shout for lockdown or school closure, but thought that was an only option to reduce the spread.

I am not particularly happy, but not unhappy either. I just accept it like a 🐑 and get on with my life.

thefallthroughtheair · 07/01/2021 12:06

They'll never be happy because for them no one can ever lock down long enough, soon enough or hard enough; no one will ever comply enough; and if they comply with the law, they won't comply with the guidance enough; if they comply with both, they won't do so happily enough; if they do so happily, they clearly aren't flagellating enough. Ad infinitum.

LucilleTheVampireBat · 07/01/2021 12:09

It isn't a lockdown. Everybody is still at work and whilst the housing market remains open there is household mixing going on every single day, multiple houses multiple times.

sqirrelfriends · 07/01/2021 12:12

There was no real alternative to lockdown, it had to happen. I'm still not happy about it.

AlexaShutUp · 07/01/2021 12:12

I believe that the lockdown was necessary. That doesn't mean that I'm enjoying it.

I have since realised that the people screaming for lockdown tend to be those that do have a life - and want everyone to be as miserable as they are. There is nothing more they want than to clip the wings of others, so they can feel better about their own social deficit.

I know people like this, and they are the ones calling for lockdownthe loudest, as their lives are in a sense are a permanent lockdown experience. Sad for them in many ways.
