An elderly relative has a paid carer once a day.
Also another relative goes to help with groceries, cleaning etc

Is this person classed as an unpaid carer being as she already has a paid carer or is it just live in carers

Thank you.

Yes I think so I'm an unpaid carer ( well on carers allowance but not a qualified carer) and i am thinking I'm classes as an unpaid carer

If you provide care for someone you can be classed as a carer, if what you are doing is needed for that person (rather than as a favour/kindness but not essential). So, if the person would suffer without it, for example.
Are you asking because of eligibility for vaccines?

CatVsChristmasTree · 07/01/2021 11:04

If the person's welfare is at risk if the carer falls ill and cannot provide care, then they are classified as an adult carer for the sake of vaccine eligibility. Receiving carers allowance automatically qualifies, obviously.

Sorry yes the person is asking about vaccines.
They don't recieve carers allowance
The elderly relative has a carer.

I think yes, some information here, they should probably see if they can have their GP put on their record that they are a carer so they are picked up in the database sweeps for the eligble

Is the unpaid carer carrying out carrying jobs that are needed by the elderly person but that for some reason have not been included in the care package?

If that’s the case, the elderly person’s family need to ask for a reassessment as it’s clear the current care package isn’t meeting their needs.

She is definitely a carer and should let her gp surgery know. It's part of my job to deal with carers.
