Is your dc school being stricter this time round - home learning?

I have 3 dc all primary aged. I was notified by the school yesterday that they are to complete 3 hours of learning per day. This is to be emailed to the teachers by 4:30pm.

They are all at different learning levels and I cannot leave them all to get on with it. The eldest needs the least help, but will still need some.

The younger two will need to be guided through most if not all their work.

So that's at least 6 hours of school work a day for the two youngest between them.

Not sure of the consequences of not handing the work in on time.

And it’s definitely didn’t take 3 hours to complete!

Our primary is still giving boring sheets. I don’t think we can do this until Easter.

Even an hour or two of a live lesson would

Every year group in our primary has an hour of live teaching everyday. They are also sent links to video lessons prepared daily by their teachers. They are required to e mail their completed work in and they are then given feedback by their teacher. We are also doing some small group teaching via zoom, for children who normally have interventions in school. If children don't attend the live learning, or email work in, ht calls the parents. We also do a couple of whole school assemblies on zoom each week.
This time round it is a proper educational offering, not childcare like in March. There is a lot more pressure on us to provide education to the children who are at home, so I imagine parents will feel that as well.

Yes, ds' senior school is taking registration at 8.45am every day.

25 x 45min live sessions a week. All dcs are expected to have relevant books ready on the table, pens, rulers etc. Anyone who has left their text books in school can arrange to have them collected. Homework is being handed out and given deadlines.

Yes much stricter for my Year 4, last time we didn’t even hand work in.

Ozzie9523 · 07/01/2021 13:21

And taking a live registration at 10am every day too.

Dcs secondary is being much more organized this time, with clearer expectations and more live teaching. But secondary is somewhat different as kids are expected to work without much parental input and hopefully most can see that the person losing out if they dont do the work will be them.

They are saying this because ofsted can now judge them on quality of one learning. If it's too much/ not practical for you please contact them.

Schools have to provide three hours’ worth of work for primary children. It’s not easy to make sure it’s all done when you’re working from home at the same time (I am). I print what I can the night before and try and work for the hour when they’re doing their online live classes.
