Why isn’t the UK government talking about airborne transmission of Covid-19?

A must read.

If this was such a risk how come there are people who live in the same house or work in very close proximity to someone who has had it yet they haven’t? It all comes down to viral load and while aerosols may play a part I doubt they play enough of a one to make an impact.

doireallyneedaname · 06/01/2021 21:12

That has nothing to do with this. Why some people seem to be immune is a separate thing entirely. This is about how COVID spreads.

Is this not why ventilation is such an important measure?

Forgetmenot157 · 06/01/2021 21:29

They have that's why it spreads less outside and told to keep places ventilated... Its a non story.

doireallyneedaname · 06/01/2021 21:31

Not at all. I agree with it completely in that people do not understand the actual risk involved! Most people I speak to think as long as you’re distanced (even inside) you’re fine.

That’s why the advice was to ventilate your house well with Christmas visitors a d why children are currently sitting in very cold classrooms with the windows all open as standard. Most people I know understand this I’m sure.

SendMeHome · 06/01/2021 21:37

We’re pretty famous for our ability to close our eyes and ignore what we don’t want to hear... I suspect that is the case here; too.

It’s been clear that this is the case, there has been repeated discussions around ventilation, being outside, etc.

doireallyneedaname · 06/01/2021 21:39

Except the problem is that, as the article states, the air flow would need to be like that of an open marquee to be effective.

Because if they discussed it people wouldn't want to go into schools, pubs, shops.

inquietant · 06/01/2021 21:40

There has been messaging about ventilation and being outside - there has not been messaging about the risk of being indoors.

Catsneezies · 06/01/2021 21:40

This is why people were told to open their windows for any permitted Christmas mixing and why children were freezing cold in schools with windows and doors open.

There are still people who stick their fingers in their ears about it though.."it's OK I wash my hands..." etc.

Busygoingblah · 06/01/2021 21:48

Those people with their fingers in their ears are the ones choosing not to listen to the clear messages and bending the rules to their own convenience.

whatswithtodaytoday · 06/01/2021 21:48

Yes, this is why people are catching it at work. Nowhere indoors is 'Covid secure'.

doireallyneedaname · 06/01/2021 21:50

Agreed. Also, viruses have been shown to travel much further than 2 meters of someone is coughing or sneezing. The whole thing is a mess.

I’ve been asking this question for 6 months. The lack of emphasis on this point compared to other nations is just bizarre. Is it a phobia of masks? It puzzles me.
