Surely Doctors and Nurses should be Vaccinated before anyone else

I find it unbelievable they are not on the first TOP priority list.

If they get very ill or die - the rest of us won't stand a chance.

They're physically struggling as well and probably more susceptible to catching it.

Where on earth is the logic - and who is responsible for this ridiculous decision?

Before I get a bashing - of course ALL lives matter, but all NHS staff are on the front line fighting this bloody war and have to wait for 'weapons' to help them!!?.

Yup agreed.

NiceViper · 06/01/2021 20:38

Priority 1 and 2 started together.

I think it's splitting hairs to say they are not at the top.

TheFairyCaravan · 06/01/2021 20:39

DS2 and DDIL are nurses. They were vaccinated in the first week.

EngineeringFix · 06/01/2021 20:39

They seem to be getting done in our area.

Babyroobs · 06/01/2021 20:41

Yes of course they should, they have put themselves at risk just going to work and many have died. They can't just stay home and protect themselves, they absolutely should be first in line.

Backbee · 06/01/2021 20:42

A lot of NHS staff have been or are very soon to be vaccinated, they are being done in tandem with priority 1.

Lemonpiano · 06/01/2021 20:42

Come on. It's not like the detailed decision making for this has been published for you to read...

Mousehole10 · 06/01/2021 20:43

NHS are being prioritised. A large number have already been vaccinated. My friend who works in the NHS but isn’t on the front line was done before Christmas.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/01/2021 20:43

That ARE getting done.

badpuma · 06/01/2021 20:43

Everyone working with Covid patients has had their first jab in this area and it is being rolled out to other departments depending on clinical need.

OhDearMuriel · 06/01/2021 20:45

@Lemonpiano
Listen to the media to know who is being prioritised first.

HighHeelBoots · 06/01/2021 20:46

They aren't prioritised in my area. We are all still waiting whilst the over 80s are getting their jabs
The average age of person in hospital has dropped considerably
Imo those who have to mix to work and keep the country moving, including teachers and supermarket staff, should have been the priority

olympicsrock · 06/01/2021 20:53

Very hit and Miss. 2/3 of junior doctors in a survey last week had not had or been contacted with a date for first jab.

Didiplanthis · 06/01/2021 20:56

I see covid face to face in the community. Not had a vaccine !

Notmoresugar · 06/01/2021 20:56

On tonight's Question Time -
ICU doctor absolutely exhausted working silly hours and still not vaccinated.
Still waiting just like she/NHS staff had to wait for PPE equipment - other people/ logistical problems again apparently - hey ho.

They should absolutely be vaccinated first!

It's like putting your oxygen mask on first on a plane before helping others with theirs.

Health workers, then everybody else surely.

LemonTT · 06/01/2021 21:03

They are basically being done on parallel to the vulnerable. Hospitals are doing their staff and GPs are doing their patients. At the same time.

Not every over 80 has been done and not every doctor has been done. I am sure someone can be found to complain on camera.

NiceViper · 06/01/2021 21:05

That's not quite right.

NHS are priority 2 (done at same time as priority 1) alongside those age 80+

The CEV vulnerable are priority 4, and the clinically vulnerable priority 6

bothearly · 06/01/2021 21:06

Several of my hospital doctor friends in various parts of the country were all vaccinated last week.

hettyhooverdoover · 06/01/2021 21:07

They have been done first. I'm in a care home and haven't had mine yet, they have done doctors and nurses first.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/01/2021 21:12

Those on the front line should be vaccinated but the front line does not include all NHS staff. For example all the admin staff in my local MH Trust are working from home and calls can't be diverted to them (yeh but no but can't a la Vicki Pollard) and the website is not up to date. CaMHS are not doing routine new referrals which is logical now but was not in June, July, Aug and September when cases here were very very low indeed if not negligible. If society locks down to protect all of the NHS then I expect ALL of the NHS to lock out when everyone else has to. Not detracting from hands on front line staff but not ALL NHS staff have rendered the services they should have whenever they could throughout this.

FWIW I signed a petition today to say that teachers should be given parity with NHS staff and I bet all school staff have more contact with the children than wfh NHS staff have had since September.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 06/01/2021 21:16

There's so much information on who makes the decision, what the decision is, how it changes as the availability of vaccine changes I am surprised at this.

marbeth · 06/01/2021 21:21

I think all front line NHS should def have priority. All hospital staff on wards and community hospitals who are having direct patient contact and can’t work from home.Lots of NHS being vaccinated. I know health visitors who have have been vaccinated. They have mostly been working from home and doing occasional home visits. Which is great they have received the vaccination . Teaching staff should have same priority as health visitors .

Alfaix · 06/01/2021 21:22

I think the Pfizer jab was so tricky to store etc that a lot of hospital staff got it before care homes as they needed to wait for Oxford to do care homes.

RosesAndHellebores · 06/01/2021 21:25

Glad to hear the hv's might be doing even a little work @marbeth Wink.
