Separated parents one key worker, other isn't. Can both use care?

I am front line NHS worker, and have worked and used the key worker school care when I'm at work.

My ex DH works from home, he does struggle with mental health issues and fatigue and I know he won't cope very well with home schooling.

Should he be allowed to access the key worker care?

Probably but all schools are different. In ours if you want keyworker care you have to attend every day so you would get full time care but some would insist that he has them full time. Would be worth having a chat and maybe talking about his mental health with them.

Theunamedcat · 06/01/2021 18:50

No its for key workers if it was for everyone there would be zero point closing the schools

Sorry

tinkerbell2021 · 06/01/2021 18:51

My school wouldn't give you a place. Both have to be key workers.

AaronPurr · 06/01/2021 18:52

Only your school can give you the answer to this, as it varies between schools.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 06/01/2021 18:54

If your child is in school due to your key worker status I would have thought it would be less disruptive for them to be in all the time so I don't see the problem. How is the childcare split normally?

He might be classed as vulnerable then perhaps?

Maybe if you're worried about the level of care she will receive whilst he's working and she is with him you could talk to the school?

We had a flood of parents claiming mental health issues as a reason we needed to take their kids. In the end we had to explain we had to offer only to critical key workers such as doctors and nurses, not to every parents claiming mental health problems.

Sexnotgender · 06/01/2021 18:59

No. He’s not a key worker and he’s at home. We’re all suffering from fucking fatigue right now.

Orange99 · 06/01/2021 19:18

@CherieBabySpliffUp
We split the childcare 50/50.

@Sexnotgender I agree, I'm working 12 hour shifts in ED , he's not!

If he wants to ask for key worker care then maybe he can justify it with the school?

Similar position here, I work in a school, exDH works from home (lots of job flexibility). He's done 2 mornings with the kids this week and has refused to have them anymore, I've had to apply for key worker places, I have to work but feel so guilty.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/01/2021 19:21

I'm divorced. My ex is a critical worker, I'm not but I cannot do my job from home. We have been given a place for DS. It's down to the individual school I think.

Orange99 · 06/01/2021 19:59

@TotallyKerplunked
My ex has pretty much said he won't be able to have them as much which is a nightmare as I can't change shifts, especially when I'm on nights.

@Waxonwaxoff0

I do sympathise as I know its hard especially adding home school in the mix.

As long as the school are okay, sometimes I feel he uses my work as an excuse even though we're not together.

I don't know many people who would want to leave their child with someone with MH issues, fatigue (different to what someone without MH issues would called fatigue) and a reluctance to teach.
