Oh another thing, the Times article mentions that IGCSEs have not been cancelled so still will be going ahead. It is just GCSEs.

More private schools seem to do the former.

I missed it - are we introducing a new Certificate in Manual Home Heating Ventilation Flue Servicing?

Environmentally safe, using natural materials.

more generous grading than usual, in line with results from summer 2020, so that this year's cohort is not disadvantaged

By extension that means that other cohorts are disadvantaged. If they said the same grading as normal (which is how they normally sort the grade boundaries).

If you make it easier to get a grade in one year, that either means that in the future people will dismiss those grades as unearned, thus disadvantaging those students or people will compare others and disadvantage the other students.

IGCSEs to go ahead,

The IGCSE exams, usually only taken in private schools, are still going ahead this summer - even though GCSEs and A-levels have been cancelled.
Exam boards that run IGCSEs plan to offer them, while many other exams have been stopped by the pandemic.
IGCSE qualifications, alternative exams to GCSEs, are not usually available in state schools.
Pupils in England who would have taken A-levels and GCSEs will now depend on replacement teachers' grades.
The decision not to cancel IGCSEs was welcomed by the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference (HMC), representing some of the most prestigious independent schools.

from the BBC news

Shit
I thought that would happen....

MarshaBradyo · 08/01/2021 14:21

I’m finding this exam stuff the most depressing part of it. And I still can’t see justification

Orangeblossom77777 · 09/01/2021 10:16

So now we have a two tier system with private schools having more education and the security of knowing exams are going ahead, and the rest left in limbo.
