How long to hear from Track & Trace

Hi everyone,

I've just heard my mum has tested positive for Covid. She only had mild cold symptoms (sneezing and runny nose) but as she is part of a COVID study they asked her to be tested. We were all shocked when she came back positive.

I know that I have been in close contact with her both in the 48 hours prior to her symptoms starting and also since they've started as my parents provide childcare for us.

What I want to know is, how long will it take for me to hear back from track and trace? Our whole household is self-isolating now, but I will need to let my employers know how long my isolation period is, and also whether I need to be tested too. I have, as it happens, got the same symptoms as my mum (sneezing & runny nose) since 2 days ago.

I'm a teacher and I don't want to have unknowingly put anyone at risk. According to the government's criteria I'm not technically meant to take a test as I don't have any of the three main symptoms despite having been in close contact with a positive case.

Thanks in advance.

To answer my own question as it may be helpful for others...
About an hour after my mum entered in the details on her side, I had an alert on my app to say to self isolate. Then about 4 hours later I had a text from NHS track and trace with details to fill out. My husband got the text at the same time, but weirdly his app still hasn't told him to isolate.

In case it helps - both DH and I started with sneezing and stuffy/runny nose for a day or so before the cough started.
