The Pfizer vaccine and fertility

I have been offered the vaccine but have heard it can affect future fertility. I've googled loads but seem to see mixed messages. I am really reluctant to have it as I would like to have a baby in the next few years.

OP posts:

You and me both OP, although Chris Whittt says don't worry. I still do. I'm at the back of the queue so hopefully I will have conceived before I get offered it.

I don't know if this might be helpful?

piscis · 06/01/2021 08:51

Where have you heard that from? From a r respectable source or somebody on social media?

I don't think there is a vaccine that has that side effect, from all the vaccines that there are out there.

I believe this comes from the recommendation of not having the vaccine if you are trying to conceive or pregnant, basically because clinical trials didn't include these groups. But that very different to the vaccine causing infertility.
It is not recommended for children either because it hasn't been tested in children, doesn't mean it does anything extrange or bad in them, but they won't recommend until it has been tested. I think with the Oxford one are planning to do some trial on children.

I think social media is what ultimately will kill us.

Obviously if you are young and have no conditions, you don't have to have it if you don't want, you are not high risk.

ILookAtTheFloor · 06/01/2021 08:57

I read something by that Yeadon bloke, who's definitely a lockdown sceptic but is a scientist. It was around the the spike protein that the vaccine neutralises could prevent the development of the placenta which relies on a similar process.

So doesn't sound completely implausible to me. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, very pro vaccine.

Porcupineintherough · 06/01/2021 08:59

Are you not worried that catching the virus would affect future fertility then? After all, its covered in spike proteins.

Thinkingg · 06/01/2021 09:07

Could you link to a source that explains your concerns? I've quickly Googled but can't find anything that makes sense.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2021 09:10

Google is not your friend here.

You might be best trying to have a phone chat with a health care professional.

There’s no evidence that the vaccine affects fertility.

WilsonMilson · 06/01/2021 09:14

I’d be concerned about this if I was looking to have another child (am not), though am concerned about this for my dc. They have not proven any link to infertility, equally they have not proven that it doesn’t have any implications for fertility.
Mike Yeadon ex Pfizer has explained his reservations on this topic in some depth.

I’m not anti bad by any means, but I’m also not blindly trusting of any vaccine that has no longer term studies.

WilsonMilson · 06/01/2021 09:15

Anti vax (autocorrect)

That link I've put in above covers that off, or seems to do in any case. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve heard this rumour and think it is literally that, a rumour. I’m pregnant and hoping to get the vaccine as soon as I am able to. The only reason they had not originally given guidance re having the vaccine in pregnancy was because they hadn’t trialled it on many pregnant women. Totally understand people will have different opinions and may make a different decision to me but just make sure you speak to a medical professional when you make your decision as there is a lot of false info flying about
