If you/your DP can't WFH, do you worry about going to work?

Wondering how those who can't WFH feel about work, how much do you worry about covid?

My dp has a job where he can't WFH, and with the news this week I feel worried. I understand the stats, we are not high risk, but I still don't want to catch it. It feels worse now he's the only one going out I think.

How do you manage this worry? Or do you not feel worried?

No, I don't feel worried. Pretty sure I caught it at work back in March anyway. My job needs doing so there's no point in worrying about it. I have to drive along a notoriously dangerous A road to get to work, I'm more worried about getting caught up in one of the many crashes along there.

I'm not saying I don't think it's a risk, I do - I just don't worry about it for some reason.

icelollycraving · 05/01/2021 22:18

Dh is still going to work. In people’s homes, not essential work but his company refuse to stop the business operating. I am v concerned.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 22:21

I just don't worry about it for some reason I wish I could do this!!

You're right about the A road though, we all manage that worry.

No I'm not worried about going to work. There are five of us in a giant hanger sized building. No one goes near each other, we hand sanitse every time we go through a door. Spray/wipe everything we touch. It's fine.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 22:28

@WunWun this sounds ultra low risk, so I would feel ok with that I expect.

I do worry a bit. I come into contact with the public, and not all of my colleagues have been as cautious as they should have been. My biggest worry is that I bring covid home to my family.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 22:32

@LubaLuca yes, the public are my worry - my DP has to deal with the public too.

I'm still going to work. I make bespoke items in a workshop behind a shop so still have lots of orders to complete even though the front of shop is shut.
It's just me and one other person working so we have plenty of space, a floor each infact.

However I have an hours journey on public transport and no matter what time I try coming home I seem to get caught up with groups of builders/labourers going home too.

The trains out to my suburb are full, all seats taken (with aisle seat empty) standing room only so that makes me anxious.
Especially as the seated people get to keep social distance whereas all the people who didn't get a seat have to squish together by the doors like it was pre-pandemic.

I worry yes. I’m cv and so is my husband. I’m a teacher so while dh can work from home I do worry about what I might pick up and bring home that could infect us both. I’m slightly less worried now that I’ll just be teaching a key worker / vulnerable bubbles but that’s still 12 other households I’ll be mixing with in a confined space. I ignore government policy saying aI shouldn’t wear a mask in the classroom and wear the best grade medical mask I can get plus visor or glasses. It’s costing me a fortune but without it I don’t think I’d have the confidence to be in class.

dreamingbohemian · 05/01/2021 22:39

My DH has been working in food retail throughout. Early on we made a very conscious decision not to worry about it -- it's just not sustainable to have that anxiety all the time. You have to just sort of let it go and accept whatever happens, happens.

If I ever start to worry, I look at the stats about how unlikely it is that either of us would get properly ill from it (40s, no health issues)

Franticbutterfly · 05/01/2021 22:44

I work on a red Covid ward, I'm not worried. I wouldn't be able to do my job if I was. All my colleagues have had Covid (I think I may have done, but my symptoms were so mild they didn't warrant a test). I haven't got the choice to be terrified.

doireallyneedaname · 05/01/2021 22:44

Can I ask which masks you buy?

Cocolapew · 05/01/2021 22:45

My DH has COPD and some days is working with other people, he moves around and I do worry about him.
I work in a Special School and have an underlying health condition and it got really bad before Christmas, staff being moved around and different subs being brought in all the time. If it was managed better I wouldn't really worry.

peanutbutterandfluff · 05/01/2021 22:47

It doesn’t worry me at all. Been working with the public from the start (vet).

Did you still isolate?

Im seeing mire and more people, including me and dh, who didnt have the three main symptoms until days after testing positive. So many people must be walking around thinking theyve a cold because people aren't losing sense of smell taste until day 5ish and dont have a temp at any point.

freakyfairy · 05/01/2021 22:51

No not worried
Temp taken at the door-every day!
Masks worn ALL the time- except when eating.
I work in a lab where we sanitise pretty much every 5 mins.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 22:51

I wonder how many people are WFH, how many working out of the home?

If I am honest, I feel I am a bit too worried, but think it may be that things got progressively worse-worse-worse over the Christmas break - my perspective has gone wonky.

I retesting how different people are!

OP posts:
MrsMomoa · 05/01/2021 22:52

Not worried at all.
Colleagues have had it, they had a headache and slight sore throat.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 22:52

Typo: I retesting = interesting

Yes I am, no msdks or sd - only about 10 others in the room but still....

Everleigh2021 · 05/01/2021 22:54

a bit more than i was in march if i'm honest

but got to work and carry on. retail

Chimeraforce · 05/01/2021 22:55

I wfh, partner cannot. Been 2 cases in his office over Christmas so a bit concerned.
But we were all very ill last Feb and loads in my office and my daughters school were off very ill then too.
So possibly may have had it then.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/01/2021 22:57

No not worried. Husband is in his 50s and carrying so extra weight but had covid and was fine. His keyworker job means he is exposed to a lot of people every day and can't always wear a mask.

The rules are followed to help stop transmission but we feel you just have to live your life and what will be will be.

Redbirds · 05/01/2021 22:57

No not worried; no masks but all socially distanced and sanitise regularly. TBH I worry more watching news and reading MN whereas work gives a sense of normality.

woefulinsomniac · 05/01/2021 23:05

Both key workers. DH is in and out of various sites/households every day and I work in a school.

In March I was teaching from home due to no childcare and was very anxious about DH bringing it home.

We had a bout of it go around our school just before Christmas and know people who have died from it, but despite this we do not/cannot worry. Admittedly there are moments when I think what are we doing and are we foolish? But being in school with my students today and seeing their faces makes it worthwhile.

I think it's a lot scarier being at home where you are isolated from the world outside and only have the news and media to base your thoughts on the current situation.
