Reasons why I think even a useless twat like Corbyn would have managed covid better than Johnson

Well for a start it would take real talent to be worse.

I think Corbyn is as bad a ditherer as Johnson, but I think he would have -

Attended COBRA meetings and not gone on holiday for two weeks in Feb.
Had a four nation approach and got the other leaders more involved.
Been more worried about health than business and locked down sooner (which would have been cheaper anyway).
Postponed end of Brexit transition and put the 30,000 (or however many) civil servants on covid instead.
We wouldn't have had the corruption and billions flying out the door to ministers mates to (not) deliver contracts
He would have used existing council and health networks such as environmental health for track and trace.

Unfortunately I don't think he would have been able to set up as extensive a furlough system. Can you imagine the right wing press and public baying for his blood if a Labour government had put that in place? Likewise with lockdowns, the Mail would be comparing him to the Nazi's, I think he would have got away with lockdowns though and managed to do them. I don't think he could get away with such a generous furlough and grant scheme though.

On vaccines, I think this government have done well, I don't think he'd have done better.

I love Jeremy Corbyn. A truly good compassionate human being, who has devoted his life to caring for the poor, and fighting injustice & racism.
The last general election was a battle between good & evil, and sadly evil won.
If JC had been PM during this, it's likely we'd have UBI now, which would have saved a lot of heartache. We'd have gone into lockdown earlier in March, under pressure from the unions, and many lives would have been saved.
Of course, as PPs have said, the right-wing press would have eaten him alive. It would have been terrible to see. Sadly, many people would have fallen for such media slander against him, as they did before, and still do, as evidenced by some of the posts on this thread. Very very sad altogether Sad

I think Corbyn would have done a better job, I don’t think we’d ever be allowed to realise he did.

There’s no way that Corbyn would have got away with the borrowing that would be needed. The press would have criticised every single thing whereas Boris has largely been given a free pass, including the lack of regulation at the borders which blows my mind, how is it that people are jetting in from any corner of the globe and only now are we considering testing them?!

I also think quarters of the press would be giving Corbyn such a hard time for locking down “he’s turning us into Commies, he’s turning us into Socket Russia/Venezuela” that the conspiracy theorists would be put in force even more than they already are. And not to mention pitting his brother against him.

No, Corbyn would have been the better leader, wouldn’t have wasted money on private contracts for PPE and track and trace and would have focused long term investment into public services. Wouldn’t have sent teachers back for the sake of his ego. I could go on, but no matter how long I do, people will not believe it and never will so for the sake of his health I’m glad he didn’t get in. We reap what we sow.

@Fgs1 I agree with every single word of your post. Thank you

@Ilovegreentomatoes

I think an elephant would of done a better job than Johnson right now.
Yes indeed, elephants are extremely intelligent and have compassion. BoJo pretends to be intelligent but is an incompetent chancer who just wanted the top job as a trophy in his cabinet.

I can’t stand Corbyn, he is inept and clearly could not hack being held accountable for his actions and questioned by people as the opposition leader. Boris has made so many mistakes but I can’t help but think Corbyn would have just made different ones. There is no way he could have handled the pressure, he is no leader.
This pandemic could have been managed much more effectively by working in coalition with the other parties and the devolved administrations IMO.

The trouble with Corbyn is he was (is) a politician rooted in the 70's.

He would have been appalling from a business perspective,

He would have been appalling from a business perspective,

Can I point out that it was the Tories that have brought us Brexit. Any illusions we had that the Tories are responsible with the economy can be most firmly put in the bin, and the bin set on fire.
