COVID vaccine - a plea from NHS staff

Just had this message from a friend

Please make sure you and your Family all dig out your NHS number and have a copy of it immediately to hand for when you or they are called for a covid jab. From my colleagues having this number to hand really speeds up being able to administer the vaccine to as many people as possible.

You can find your NHS number on any NHS correspondence or through your patient access to your GP website.

It would be really helpful if you could share this message with friends and family.
@Hobbesmanc perhaps not a hoax per se but no one needs to provide it for the vaccination in any setting.
No it won't stop them getting it- but I can assure you from direct experience- it does cause delays.

So if people have it and are asked for it, it speeds things up in some Vaccination centres. Every little helps

for CEV people I think it was on the shielding letter.

You GP would have the number so might be able to help if you can't find it (as long as you can prove it is genuinely you asking)

I've been working at a vaccine hub today. They do need your NHS number to make a note that you've been vaccinated but for most people it's easy for the administrators to find you via postcode and date of birth.

If you've moved house or gp surgery or changed your name without the system being updated it might be more difficult to find you, so would save time for you to bring it in.

To add to what I said above - this was at a vaccine hub for NHS staff only, not for community vaccination.

I have until September/October to find mine. Shock Grin

passporttohell · 06/01/2021 17:44

Yep, depending on the rate the NHS vaccination proceeds at, I might have a year or more to dig out my number, or maybe longer depending on the next mutant strain arriving by plane through open borders.

In my practice, when we get a patient's notes up, we can click a button and it finds the patient's CHI ( Scotland) NHS number within seconds. I really wouldn't worry. The systems are all linked
