So the school will not allow my dc to attend.

Who else is in this situation?
What are you doing in regards to working with no childcare?

I think a vast majority of us are in this situation sadly. It stinks.
The whole keyworker thing thing needs total re-evaluation anyway IMO, its very unfair.

I’m also in this situation. DH is working but not classed as a keyworker, I can be classed as a keyworker but I need a letter from work to prove it to school. Work aren’t happy that I haven’t gone in today but what else am I meant to do. We rely on his wage more than mine and he’s trying to sort out somehow to be able to work from home. Is there a reason a lot of businesses won’t use the furlough scheme? I’ll probably have to have unpaid leave if they won’t furlough me again. It’s an absolute nightmare.

LondonFE · 05/01/2021 17:28

What do you do!? I can't find a job that isn't covered by keyworker list outside of industries that have closed!

bluebeck · 05/01/2021 17:30

It's shit. The government should make it a legal requirement for employers to provide parental furlough to anyone who cannot secure a school place.

They just don't care.

DancingQueen2018 · 05/01/2021 17:33

Childcare bubble? I have one with my friend and have hers twice a week (I also did this way before covid).

oohmyback · 05/01/2021 17:34

I am a key worker but dh isn't. He has to work outside of house as he has a workshop. Doesn't look like I'll get a place for 7 year old. Bloody nightmare

Thepilotlightsgoneout · 05/01/2021 17:35

What has your employer said? What is your job that you have to leave the house up for it but you’re not a keyworker? What did you do in the first lockdown?

Sorry, lots of questions!

AvoidingRealHumans · 05/01/2021 17:36

Single parent here and as my work is still open and there is work for me I cant get furlough.
I also can't just not go to work for 7 weeks, no idea what to do apart from cry or hand my notice in.

Alexandernevermind · 05/01/2021 17:37

Can you take annual leave whilst you organise a child minder? I can see many parents leaving primary school age children home alone because there are no options.

DianaT1969 · 05/01/2021 17:47

Annual leave, unpaid leave, parental leave, find a childminder who has a space.
Depending on the age of the child, bubble up with another family for a nanny or pay a responsible unemployed 17-19 year old to 'babysit' all day.
