When keyworker parent isn't a biological parent...

What are peoples experiences in applying for a key worker space at school for your child when the key worker is not a biological parent?

Partner is a headteacher and assume parental responsibility as I am widowed, although we haven't documented this through the courts.

Surely it would be anyone in a residential parenting role to the child? Don't have any experience tho.

It's been fine for us. DH is an HGV driver but isn't DS's biological dad. DS has still got a place

I know someone who is a teacher who got their step child a key worker place even though the child’s parent was furloughed.

@BirthdayKake thanks. We're not married but hopefully that shouldn't be relevant.

@Grobagsforever no worries. I don't think that will make a difference at all. I didn't even have to provide any proof of DH's employment (and this was for a grammar school!) x

@BunsyGirl

Oh dear! I am only asking for a place as I am about to start a brand new very demanding full time role so there will literally be no one to supervise the children!!

@Grobagsforever I’m not criticising you. I am however criticising them Smile. I had heart palpitations last time I had to do my demanding and stressful job whilst homeschooling my DCs. Meanwhile, this person is putting photos on Facebook of all their lovely DIY exploits.

Dont you both have to be key workers? Definitely the case at our school.

Grobagsforever · 05/01/2021 13:10

@DoctorYang

Just one parent at our schools

I think we have a lower proportion than average of key worker kids (affluent area) so they aren't overwhelmed with requests

As in, many parents are lawyers, bankers etc.
