So has your area 'locked down'?

I know the economy needs to function, however where I live roads are busy, industrial estates are exactly the same (minimal SD, lots of sharing vans etc) so if this is necessary to keep the economy going how long is lockdown going to be?

Last time it was months of no school, no seeing people etc and the roads were empty for weeks as was the industrial estate, I can't see when it will end with all the mixing.

I think I'd rather give up my liberties for 4 weeks then this dragging for months and months.

I agree. Roads are no quieter around here. I called into the supermarket earlier and it was rammed. Lots of parents/children wondering around. I thought the children should be at home doing online/remote lessons? Builders still working on next doors' kitchen/dining room knock through with no sign of masks etc. The lockdown will go on longer if people can't be arsed to even take simple precautions.

Flaxmeadow · 05/01/2021 12:05

No noticable difference here either. Unfortunately

RMarieClaire · 05/01/2021 12:43

Not noticeably different here but we were already tier 4. I haven't noticed the big drop off in traffic that we saw in March but maybe that's because it's a winter and also we've got used to the reduced movement.

I guess we'll know in the next month if we're doing enough.

Givemethechocolate · 05/01/2021 12:46

It doesn't come law until tomorrow though so people we still continue until then I think

Delatron · 05/01/2021 12:47

I remember the roads being so quiet last time. Still very busy today here.

Hairwizard · 05/01/2021 12:56

@Testingisajoke

We have already given up our liberties. Back in march...

MolyHolyGuacamole · 05/01/2021 12:59

Sailed to work this morning. Left 20 minutes later than usual. Took 25 instead of 50 minutes. Same with the journey back, although I put this down purely to no school

PattyPan · 05/01/2021 13:04

No idea to be honest - I went to the pharmacy last week but I haven’t been out otherwise since two weeks before Christmas. Maybe all the people you’re seeing are out for the same reason as you?

Springersrock · 05/01/2021 13:05

The roads are a lot busier on my way to work this morning than they were during the 1st lockdown.

Lots of businesses closed though that didn’t actually have to close. The grants aren’t available this time so I guess they’re choosing to stay open.

The industrial estate I’m in is quiet - the factories are working, but it’s a lot quieter as their visitors and customers aren’t around

I was walking the dog. Just surprised to see so many cars versus March.

Lucieintheskye · 05/01/2021 13:10

I travelled into the village and small town today (essential journey) and the roads were dead, no one out walking and only saw someone in the grocers. There have been 15 people posting on the online noticeboard asking for desks and desk chairs though!

SendMeHome · 05/01/2021 13:10

Nope. But there's people pulling it apart everywhere now, talking about what is law and what is guidance, and that wasn't the case in lockdown 1. It was so novel, and scary to some extent, that people tended to take it all as law and comply. That's not the case now.

There's also more support bubbles and exceptions now. Children under 5 don't count on walks, childcare bubbles, single people bubbles, etc. They weren't around in the first lockdown. I think they probably should have been, but they're definitely now being abused here. But taking them away would harm the people who do need them...

I'm not expecting it to get back to March levels.

starfish4 · 05/01/2021 13:10

I can't totally answer your question as DH working from home and I haven't been out on my daily exercise (day off). However, it's very quiet in our road, haven't heard or seen a moving car all day.

Allispretty · 05/01/2021 13:12

Give people chance, it was announced at 8pm people have likely still had to go to work (I have!) Finish last jobs off (builders etc) it doesn't actually come into effect until tonight

SeasonFinale · 05/01/2021 13:12

First lockdown noone was allowed into work though. This time they are hence the traffic.

Delatron · 05/01/2021 13:14

Yes and nurseries are open.

WhentheDealGoesDown1 · 05/01/2021 13:14

There are more thing open, DH took his car for an MOT, last time garages were shut and MOTs extended. The tip is open and that was shut last March

KitKatastrophe · 05/01/2021 13:15

The lockdown will last until the vaccine is sufficiently rolled out. People sharing vans won't extend the lockdown.

TillysMum02 · 05/01/2021 13:16

No different to tier 4 here so far

Obvs schools but it’s same as through school hols

LST · 05/01/2021 13:16

@seasonfinale yes they were me and dp never stopped! He is a jewellery manufacturer so not a kw and he was allowed to work. I am sick of seeing people saying people weren't allowed last time or shouldn't this time!

PickAChew · 05/01/2021 13:17

Crossing the road outside my house is no longer like a game of fogger, so it is different.

Lots of walkers but this is the first day in a week that is both ice free and not pissing down, so I was one of them.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 05/01/2021 13:18

We have anti mask anti covid protestors sitting on top of Glastonbury Tor. I hope they stay up there and freeze...morons.

MorrisZapp · 05/01/2021 13:18

That's no fun! I want to blame my neighbours for chatting in the street instead of a much anticipated winter spike and a new variant.
chocolatesaltyballs22 · 05/01/2021 13:19

I do love the posters commenting that supermarkets are still rammed from their experience of going to said supermarket themselves... Hmm
