Do keyworkers HAVE to send children in?

I am classed as a key worker- but I am a student on placement at a CAMHS unit.

My son is 8 but he was born at 28 weeks and has really awful lungs where he always picks up chest infections and croup. He also has asthma.

I don't feel safe sending him into school at all.

Where do I stand with this? Will I be told I have no choice?

No. We received an email saying that they are only asking keyworker children to come in if it is absolutely essential and there is no other choice

Are you asking if you have to use school as childcare or whether you can be excused from work to care for him?

hettyhooverdoover · 05/01/2021 09:31

No, We are both keyworkers but manage shifts around each other and we are not sending our children in.

I'd be asking my university if I can wfh.

I'm a key worker and work on the frontline.

Last lockdown we managed it between mine and my husbands shifts 95% of the time. And managed is a term i use loosely... we are not cut out to be teachersGrin
The other 5% of the time the youngest went to school. The school were happy to accept them on an adhoc basis and I've just spoke to them again and they're happy for this to happen again.

No. Last time our trust was very clear that you should only send your children into school if you absolutely had no other option.

If you’ve got another childcare option you should use that.

My partner and I might be able to share the childcare in the week- he's working out what days etc now. I'm also pregnant so having a risk assessment done when I go in.

Haven't been able to go in today as trying to sort it all out!

The problem is, you must likely can't do your placement WFH, the rest of your university work yes, but a placement is just that.

But I do agree that key workers don't have to send their kids in if they there is an alternative. Personall I'd send them, but that's a choice.
