Work won't allow me to self isolate after app telling me I need to

I'm in work on nights and I had a notification come through saying I need to self isolate for 10 days as I've been in contact with someone who has tested positive for covid. I showed my line manager the notification and I was told to ignore it and that as long as I've kept to the guidelines of 2m etc that I'm fine and that they'll only accept an official text message or phone call from public health telling me I need to isolate.

So I'm still in work and my colleagues are understandably up in arms about this and so am I. I work in the nhs in a hospital so it's not like my management don't understand how bad it could be if I am passing covid onto my colleagues or patients. Wtf do I do?!

Christ that’s awful. I would book a test ASAP because if you are carrying the virus you really need to know (I know your not showing any symptoms before the test rule police jump on me) but surely one test without symptoms if better than you possibly spreading it in an nhs environment. How awkward for you when people at work know about it, good luck OP

I'm suprised that you have your phone and the app on in work- we dont for the reason that we would be constantly self isolating if we did. We are in close contact with positive patients all day long- it's naturally going to say to isolate when if in full PPE- we shouldn't be. Is the app saying it's from alleged workplace exposure?

trackandtrace5 · 05/01/2021 02:21

@SD1978 the notification came through as I was putting my phone away to go into the red unit. That's really beside the point. The majority of my patients are level 3's so aren't in a position to update the app and I wasn't on the covid unit when I was supposedly in contact with someone who has tested positive. It doesn't tell me where it was from sadly. Is it supposed to?

@Sassysally12 I booked a test for tomorrow morning after I finish my shift just to be safe. The only possible thing (if I am positive) that I could connect it to is a nasty headache I had for about 24 hours from 7pm Sunday to 6pm yesterday and wouldn't go away with paracetamol but eventually did with ibuprofen but it's still there slightly.

friends working in hospitals local to me have been advised to turn off the notification app before coming in to the building as the chances of being pinged are higher and of course if you're all in PPE your risk is considerably lower

BorderlineBagpuss · 30/07/2021 00:47

This is crazy. If you’re in a hospital of course you’ll be pinged all the time.

CirqueDeMorgue · 30/07/2021 01:42

I deleted the stupid app after the first 'ping.'

Mum21031608 · 30/07/2021 06:44

I thought it was set out by Government that NHS staff who have been in contact with a positive case are still allowed/expected to go into work unless they are symptomatic?

@BorderlineBagpuss

Confused exactly!

Oh just realised this is an old thread

NakedAttraction · 30/07/2021 06:48

This is a wind up, surely?

A. As others have said, people who work in hospitals have been told to turn the app off so of course they’re going to tell you to ignore it.

B. Aren’t most people who work in hospitals now part of the exempt group?
