Should I cancel this?

We're due to have a carpenter come round one day next week to hang some new doors and do some little jobs for us. I've been in touch this evening and he has said he still plans to come, in spite of the lockdown, as long as we're happy to have him. I know that construction work can continue but the work is not essential.

My head is a bit mashed at the moment with everything going on, I can't work out whether it's totally unreasonable to go ahead with it? I WFH and would be totally out of the way, and there wouldn't be anyone else in the house.

Please don't flame me (I feel like it's a bad omen to say that lol). I keep going back and fourth about it in my head.

I’d let him come if you’re both ok with it, he may be relying on the money.

You can work if you can’t work from home so it’s ok.

He can come.
Can you keep your distance and keep windows open

BlueBaubles12 · 04/01/2021 21:57

I’d definitely let him come. Just keep your distance and take sensible precautions.

We’re having a new front door installed next week. I’ve no intention of cancelling unless they do.

We have a plumber coming on Friday to change some taps. He's done work for us before (incl. during last lockdown) he's responsible and respectful, wears a mask, keeps his distance.

He's got to warn a living, and I trust him to take precautions.

Where it is necessary for you to work in other people’s homes - for example, for nannies, cleaners or tradespeople - you can do so

It doesn't say the work has to be essential

I'd say if you both wear masks when he arrives and you show him around, then if you're completely happy to leave him alone while he does the work then I wouldn't cancel.

Keep the area well ventilated & sanitise the door handles/light switches/toilet/taps etc when he leaves, it's pretty low risk.

Tell him to bring a flask & mask.

Thank you everyone! Really appreciate your thoughts. We'll go ahead and get the work done, following all precautions.
