Hello - does anyone know if tradespeople and cleaners can still come to your house? With social distancing etc.

I can’t seem to find the guidelines!

I bloody well hope so. Because the macerator is due to be fixed on Thursday (finally - after a 3 week wait for the right part to arrive). Currently having to manually employed the shower tray every 8 hours to prevent it overflowing (resulting in water dripping through the ceiling of my home office). Surely this is actually essential?!

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2021 21:49

Empty (not employed - thanks autocorrect)

Oysterbabe · 04/01/2021 21:49

I'm going to tell my cleaner to come if she wants. She didn't last time.

Frenchdressing · 04/01/2021 21:51

Yes they can

Jakadaal · 04/01/2021 21:52

It's all in the guidance on the website. Boris only announced parts of it

MaryShelley1818 · 04/01/2021 21:54

Yes - tradespeople and cleaners can continue to work in people's homes.

SantaMonicaPier · 04/01/2021 22:30

Are others permitting their cleaners to come? Mine is keen but we're undecided.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/01/2021 22:46

They are still allowed to work in people's homes, but it will depend what you and they are comfortable with. DH is an electrician, and has been calling round upcoming jobs, it's been a mix of:
"Please still come"
"I'd rather put work on hold"
"Can't continue because other trades have cancelled"
"Help, my normal sparkies now shielding, and I'm stuck without an oven"

He's decided to honor any booked in jobs that want to continue, then switch to only doing urgent work or empty buildings. But this is stricter then he needs to be and everyone will do their own risk assessment, and decide what their happy to do within the rules.

My cleaner is coming. She wears a mask and gloves which she has done since she started back last summer. We are never in the same room as her.

BunsyGirl · 04/01/2021 23:20

We are also getting a carpenter round to do a small job. My DH is self-employed and he’s very much of the view that we need to support small businesses as much as we can.

I’m not having the alarm company in this week and cleaning will stop. IMO the whole point of a lockdown is to stop the virus. Every little chink in the chain is not helping. The new strain is highly transmittable, so lockdown should be lockdown

Where it is necessary for you to work in other people's homes - for
example, for nannies, cleaners or tradespeople - you can do so.

I think only in emergencies. Or this will go on forever.

middleager · 04/01/2021 23:31

Thanks. We've had ongoing boiler and electric issues that I thought were sorted, but no, a sixth visit tomorrow scheduled by yet another tradesperson.
Each time I worry about the risk to us/them.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 04/01/2021 23:32

My boyfriend is a smart meter fitter and is fully expected to go in and out of people's houses for the foreseeable future. Across three council areas which have rocketing case numbers. He's worried and I'm furious! His company said to wear his mask and download the nhs app.

icelollycraving · 05/01/2021 20:48

My dh is still expected to go into people’s homes. His work is not essential by any stretch of the imagination. In 10-12 homes a day. He’s nervous. It has really made me very anxious indeed.

SorenLorensonsInvisibleFriend · 07/01/2021 12:21

It's horrible, isn't it, @icelollycraving. Has your DH been called a 'key worker' yet? As if it's necessary to keeping the country running! It feels as if it's compromising the whole point of lockdown, too, as well as putting them at risk :(
