Will playgrounds shut again?

Any ideas ? I don’t think I can cope if they are. We don’t even have a garden.

I REALLY hope not! 😢 We have literally gone to a playground everyday of the Christmas holidays. It's the only thing keeping us sane!!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/01/2021 16:59

I’m going to say yes they will close but I’m in a fucking negative mood about this whole shitty situation and am sure the males and child free women that run this country and it’s neighbours will go out of their way to make this even harder on young children and mothers !!!!

Sweetpea84 · 04/01/2021 17:00

It’s shit it really is but I can see why they want to as my local one is constantly heaving it’s more busier than ever.

tappitytaptap · 04/01/2021 17:00

I bloody hope not.

LIZS · 04/01/2021 17:01

One of local ones was closed due to parents failing to maintain sd and apparently they are still lifting children over the fence.

Chottie · 04/01/2021 17:01

I hope they don't. It's going to be a long, hard haul to spring without the playgrounds being closed too......

Remmy123 · 04/01/2021 17:01

Silly if they did

Indecisive12 · 04/01/2021 17:01

I think they need to unfortunately. If schools close playgrounds should as the risk of transmission there must be high.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 04/01/2021 17:03

Praying not... I’m a nanny and homeschooling and it was a bloody nightmare that they were closed last time, there’s only so many times you can time the kids biking up and down the road when the parent asks you to ‘wear them out for at least an hour’ every day. I will cry if they’re closed, they’ve no garden apart from a death trap glass terrace Hmm

DarceyDashwood · 04/01/2021 17:03

I’d say any risk of transmission is more from parents stood around chatting rather than the actual playground equipment itself. Esp if kids use sanitiser before and after.

SimonJT · 04/01/2021 17:04

Maybe, we don’t have a garden either so I’m hoping they don’t.

The playgrounds near us are very very quiet, we haven’t had to share the playground with anyone else for weeks .

ListeningQuietly · 04/01/2021 17:04

There is no evidence of transmission via surfaces outdoors
therefore no need to

HappyChristmasTreeRex · 04/01/2021 17:06

In our T4 area a lot of them have already.

I feel this way about school closures.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/01/2021 17:12

Where do you live that you are still using playgrounds?

The weather has been so wet and cold in London for weeks. The equipment is always wet and cold. The grass playing fields are muddy and boggy. Would love to use park but it is grim.

North London, we go virtually everyday.
SmidgenofaPigeon · 04/01/2021 17:14

@Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum sure it’s grim, but the kids are wrapped up and in wellies and they don’t care. Not ideal for me but I can get over it.

likeamillpond · 04/01/2021 17:15

I think they should close.
Hopefully parks will stay open.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 04/01/2021 17:22

I think they should close.Hopefully parks will stay open I think if they close let’s close the parks, let’s spite everyone not just young children- walk on the roads!

IfTheSockFits · 04/01/2021 17:24

It's so chuffing cold, not many kids are going to want to go the playground anyway, and if they do, they will probably be few and far between... and wearing gloves.

They are still open round here in T4.

Indecisive12 · 04/01/2021 17:25

@OnlyFoolsnMothers Why? Don’t your children enjoy scooting around the park, playing on the muddy fields, climbing trees etc? Closing playgrounds will just deter the picnickers meeting up with mates whilst their children run around together. Playgrounds near me are packed out and unpleasant at the moment so we just walk through the woods which they enjoy just as much.

StatisticalSense · 04/01/2021 17:25

They need to close and they need to put bigger fences around them to stop the people who were climbing the fences in March. The local ones look like a festival main stage during the headline act most of the time.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 04/01/2021 17:27

I imagine lots of people wanting the playgrounds to close have gardens and live hear lovely big open spaces... they’re an absolute godsend for some people with no gardens and cramped living conditions and don’t have other safe big spaces to bike and run around in

MarshaBradyo · 04/01/2021 17:28

I doubt it

Nettleskeins · 04/01/2021 17:30

It is crazy to close the playgrounds. Round here whilst the children were locked out, feral adults teens just jumped the fence and had picnics at the tables and benches. At least with the kids using it there is more social distancing and less adult socialising.
And anyway it is a health issue to stop children using playgrounds and discouraging outdoor exercise, ventilation, fresh air. Most small kids hate walking for its own sake. They need a goal.
