What do you think the lockdown measures will include later today? Thanks

Basically, I don’t think anything’s going to change much regardless of any new restrictions. High compliance and fear of apparent certain death was what kept people at home and shops emptier in March / April and both have waned significantly.

turnthebiglightoff · 04/01/2021 17:16

If they close playgrounds I'll be sending my toddler to BoJo to entertain. Take that, fuckface.

Whydoireadthis · 04/01/2021 17:20

@Danni91

I believe they will shut schools down again.

To be honest at this stage I'm so fucking fed up id rather a total lockdown until the whole of the UK is vaccinated.

2020 really bought out kindness is many, and the arseholes in even more.

I just want to fast forward.

Shut us down, vaccinate, reopen safely. All this back and forth, ifs and maybes, u turns and 'one day' is a bitch.

This!!! The only thing is whether enough of us abide by the rules enough for it to work but I can’t see any other option. Theres no point in certain areas having different restrictions then the transport links being open for tier 4 folk to travel to tier 1. We (collectively as a country) are useless at sticking to the rules. Look at New Zealand!! New Years Eve fireworks as normal. With crowds. Bloody amazing. I imagine tonight will be tier 5(?!?) with schools closing, so pretty much lockdown for the majority of people. I look back fondly on the days in March when I naively thought this would be over by July 🤦🏼‍♀️
vminkookie · 04/01/2021 17:20

Is like to see full lockdown with but schools closed for the first couple of weeks only then to go back with testing for all the kids and teachers, even primary, every few days. After the couple of weeks if everyone had locked down properly then risk should be low.

That said, kids of frontline and keyworkers who deal with the public should be in different bubbles and I don't know how they'd manage that!

Prioritise teachers for vaccinations as even if they're in a low risk group health and age wise they'll have family who might not be.

Scarlettpixie · 04/01/2021 17:30

Same as Scotland I should think. National lockdown. Illegal to go out without a good reason, schools closed, if you can work from home you must. As others have said people should be told not to treat the weekly shop as a family outing (obvs single parents have no choice but to take kids if they can’t get a delivery). I haven't done a big supermarket shop in person since last March and can count on my fingers how many times I have been in any shop.

likeamillpond · 04/01/2021 17:32

Too many crowds out shopping.
Close all shops except supermarkets

None of this ' they can stay open because they sell sweets diy' bollicks.
Cut down on so many exceptions.
Supermarkets need to go back to only letting x amount of people in at a time.
Yes it will be hell.
But rather a short sharp shock before the vaccines than a series of half arsed tiers and messing about.
So sick to death of tiers.

Oh and the most important thing of all?
People need to
Stop Breaking The Fucking Rules!!!!!!!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 17:35

We could stop making Preston look clever and do what he does, ending, but not restricted to, some vague variation bon whatever Sturgeon said.

That her press conferences have always been earlier in the day, almost immediately after the home nations conferences, has made her look good and given desperate journos a good idea of what's coming to England once Johnson has finished the whole of UK and England meetings.

So, basically, whatever she said... But more vague cos she always underplays one part whilst overplaying another.

Xerochrysum · 04/01/2021 17:36

I don't mind having very strict short term lockdown. I really can't stand mediocre restrictions that's going on for forever with lots of loopholes that the people can take advantage of.

Spodge · 04/01/2021 17:41

What I would like to see:

Open and police Covid safe environments. Shops, gyms, restaurants etc. Allow/force restaurants to take ID and proof of address so no household mixing.

No household mixing (bar support bubbles).

Move secondary schools and universities to distance learning EXCEPT for the instances where face to face is vital (e.g. science practical sessions)

What I expect to see:

Tinkering and tightening of rules that will have negligible effects and damage the economy further. To those who are shouting for lockdowns and shop closing - exactly how has that helped Wales?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 19:40

Open and police Covid safe environments. Shops, gyms, restaurants etc. Allow/force restaurants to take ID and proof of address so no household mixing. That won't ever be passed here. You can't make wait staff your stand in police force

No household mixing (bar support bubbles). Why allow bubbles. Stop them too, if you are serious.

Move secondary schools and universities to distance learning EXCEPT for the instances where face to face is vital (e.g. science practical sessions) Whose definition of vital? How will you sort out the timetable, ensure each student is ready for and can access the face to face session - including safe transport to and from schoo, where they will be held whilsyt others take other classes abefore all being put back intot he secure transportation and taken homewards again. And a thousand other issues, individual and cohort wide!

All that tinkering is an attempt to find a realistic way round all the isues you haven't even thought of. It has helped Wales in the same way as ihas helped the rest of the UK - slowed down or avoided the ICUs becoming overwhelmed. The stated imperative in most countries for almost a year now!

Maybe a few more will be if he announces a March style lockdown but I’m not betting on it. Too many will carry on doing what they like or coming up with excuses as the why the rules don’t apply to them.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 20:03

And there it is... Stay home!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/01/2021 20:14

Bloody hell, even Starmer looks worried!

Has declined to criticise the 'package'

Now he's being all jingoistic!
