Nurseries

I know nurseries are already closed in Scotland. I'm interested to know if others think it's likely that they will also close in England.

I don't know how I feel either way really. My son's nursery has only had one case throughout (although they were obviously closed to all but key worker children during the first lockdown). My son is 3 and I don't believe him to be at high risk, but my husband and I have not had the virus and it's possible we would be more unwell. I am also pregnant. That said, my son had a very rough return to nursery last July and loves it now he is back. With the world so closed down, it does feel like a pretty important source of social contact for him (and respite for us). But clearly I wouldn't want him there if it is unsafe for him/us/the wonderful staff.

I feel it's only a matter of time, really, so I'm trying to mentally prepare myself.

I said when I picked my 2 year old DD up from nursery on the last day before Christmas that I would be surprised if we saw them (speaking to DDs keyworker) in January. Currently in a Tier 3 area but I reckon they will close

DH can only work outside of the home and I’m heavily pregnant - due mid February and getting my section date next week - so would rather they didn’t close, especially as the measures put in place at nursery since they reopened in Summer seem to have been very successful at halting any outbreaks but needs must I suppose.

I only hope that nursery are happy to refund the full - or partial - fees that we paid for the month a couple of days ago!

My daughter is due a settling in visit tomorrow and then starting on Thursday. This was going to be the first time she interacted with another child her age since last March. But hey, it's not going to affect her development as "she won't remember" Hmm

We are in tier 4 and schools are closed but nurseries are open. Our nursery had over 20 cases in December (including my son), including many staff members - thankfully nobody was seriously ill. It seems foolish to keep nurseries open in tier 4 for anyone other than key workers children and vulnerable children. Tiers 2 and 3 may be different, I appreciate.

It is so hard to have the kids home (the first lockdown seemed to last forever) but I can’t help but worry about passing on the virus to teachers and their families.
