Test 12 year old - because he's tired?

Our council have put testing in place for those that have symptoms differing to the main 3 but that may be covid related, fatigue is on the list.

My DS is usually an early riser, 7am is good going. For the last week he has slept until at least 9am, with me waking him at 11am on one occasion. He got up at 7am this morning so I thought normal service had been resumed after a tiring week of Christmas and New year, but he fell asleep on the sofa at 8.30am and is still snoring despite the dogs barking at a delivery, his Dad arriving home and so on. This is unusual for him, unless ill. He seems completely fine though and says he feels fine, apart from this extreme tiredness. Do I need to book him in for a test or is he just tired?

It is usual, when away from the normal routine to sleep a lot. My ds used to be like this every single school holiday.

I think he had covid last March and the tiredness he had then was much more of a lethargy rather than just feeling sleepy. But if you are unsure, get him tested. Our local council says test for fatigue with no logical explanation.

My two have been tired too due to the late nights over Christmas and new year.

Thank you. I am aware he is reaching the teen years, and therefore may sleep better, if he follows the pattern of his older siblings.

He is asleep in a room with lots of noise, which usually would wake him, which has made me wonder more. I will see how he is for the rest of the day I guess. If he wakes and is energetic then perhaps he's just worn out. For now, I'll make the most of it and read a book Smile

Heading towards the teenagers years where they all sleep until lunchtime.
I now miss the days when mine were up at 5.00

Hopefully!

I have never done well with sleeping in, so perhaps I will have to get used to quiet mornings while the rest of the household sleeps.
