Small babies and Corona

I'm awaiting my test result for Covid but certain it will be positive. I am on day 4 and have all the classic symptoms and then some! I'm coping okay so far and managing to get on with things best I can. Dc is 8 weeks old and I'm quite worried whether he has caught it from me. He is very grunty and congested in a way that is different to a normal cold as there is no runny nose or sign of any catarrh (he has had two since being born), I'm having to use normal saline drops before every feed as the poor thing really struggles. He is smiling less and isn't his usual happy self, whereas normally very active and loves standing on my lap but isn't interested at the moment (when I try to stand him up his legs buckle as though he has no energy). Having said all that he is drinking his milk fine and plenty of wet nappies and 1-2 dirty a day. I am keeping an eye on his temperature and it's been okay.

I guess I need some reassurance that he is okay, has anyone else experienced similar with their small baby? I've tried to keep a distance from him to protect him but it's impossible as he has become clingier and wants to be carried all the time Sad

I mean, he’s 8 weeks so I have no doubt his legs will buckle sometimes Shock

Baby will be fine as will you. Are you breastfeeding? If so, make sure to continue.

If you’ve got a thermometer I’d keep an eye on baby and if it’s persistent give 111 a call x

Always keep a really close eye on an 8 week old baby with a cold. Try not to worry.

Thanks for the reassurance.

@doireallyneedaname he has amazingly strong legs for a newborn! The HV has commented on it and also the doctor at the hospital when they did his check. That's why I know it isn't like him to not be interested in standing at all. He's breathing heavily but giving me his biggest smiles on waking up so hopefully it's nothing to worry about.

Most important factors are his feeding, nappies and temperature so try not to worry.

Everything will be just fine, though I know the worry. I had a baby in a February, two weeks before lockdown. Chin up :)

I know it is worrying but try not to stress. I know 4 people who have had covid with a baby in the house and all babies just fine!

I ended up ringing 111 because his temperature shot up suddenly and stayed around 38.3 for over an hour. The doctor who got in touch advised calpol and a close eye on his breathing. He's still heavily congested, wheezy and weeing a bit less but unless it's a flashing lights type of emergency they aren't interested at the moment. Local hospital is heaving so they are all feeling the strain.

She explained little babies can get extremely poorly with any virus and with this bastard Coronavirus there's no telling what may happen. I'm so glad schools have closed, it's evident the virus is affecting children too.
