Are you still planning on working in a school even though you live with someone vulnerable or elderly?

I work in a school (SEN) and should be starting on Wednesday but I'm unsure what is the right, rational thing to do for everyone as I'm a single mum to a toddler and live with my elderly parent (they haven't been called for their vaccine yet). I can keep my toddler off nursery for a week or two to see how things settle down but if I don't go in to work then it'll negatively impact the boy I work with and his family.
Any advice please?!

What a difficult situation. How old is your parent?

Zogonafrog · 03/01/2021 17:11

75 (she has some health issues - high blood pressure and suffers with chest/cough issues fairly frequently)

In same position here, my school were awful last time. I’m T4 both schools shut have a primary and a secondary but I’m expected in. I live with CEV, 88, autoimmune, severe asthma, high BP.

It's so difficult isn't it. I don't want to appear irrational and say I'm not going in but I would hate to pass COVID onto my DM. I'm the 'weakest link' as she's been in for weeks now (and for most of the year) to be safe

I work in a school office and my partner is vulnerable. I seem to spend half my time cleaning my hands. We are taking precautions at home. It's a conundrum, I don't want to leave but the only thing stopping me is the hope we will be closing to all but keyworker and vulnerable kids soon. Half the children will lessen the risk. If I was a TA I would have left by now.

I just wish we'd get week or two to let everything settle from the Christmas and New Year period.

@Zogonafrog and @EvilEdna1 it’s so difficult isn’t it? The letters from government don’t even support us that they send to shielding people they say we can work which isn’t helpful.

I got absolutely flamed last time, was not supported at all, argued back and forth and HR were shocking.

Same as me, it will be me or the kids that pass it on, they don’t seem to understand that’s something I couldn’t live without, she’s already been in hospital for almost a month last year. It’s not a case of oh crack on because you aren’t CEV, we have a responsibility to those people too, the people we love dearly.

If you are in a union supporting the section 44 you can exercise your right that way.

You work from home then.
