Vaccine - category 6 16- to 64-year-olds with serious underlying health conditions

Hi
Just wondering if anyone knew what is meant exactly by category 6 "16- to 64-year-olds with serious underlying health conditions" of the vaccine rollout?
I' 45 and I have asthma but wouldn't know if it's classed as severe or not. I need steroids at least once a year but have never been hospitalised. I'm eligible for the flu vaccine.
Thank you

I had assumed I wasn't on the vaccine priority list as the list doesn't include asthma unless it's severe. I take both a steroid preventative (brown) and the blue Ventolin. Is that the case or would I be on the list?

Thanks so much for posting the Green book, I didn't want to bother the GP to find out which category DVT / PE is ( category 6 it seems).

@NotAnotherUserNumber
That's my understanding too. Systemic stereoids would be tablets (or IV, I guess) and not include inhalers.
I'm on Symbicort inhaler plus a reliever but still need prednisolone at least once a year, some years up to three courses.
I don't think I have severe asthma though and I'd be very surprised if I was included in group 6. I thibk the info on that website is probably out of date.

I’m surprised to find DH is on the stage 6 list. Anyone know what stage we’re on now?

iVampire · 03/01/2021 21:01

What’s a bit weird is that some conditions (haem cancer, transplants) seem to be on both the CEV list and the priority 6 list, which is som

(slippery fingers)

... which is somewhat confusing

As ICNARC data on who is in ITU has haem malignancies as the second largest group, I really hope that if a condition is listed in both 4 and 6, the actual priority will be 4

I'm confused now.

So is BMI 40+ in group 4 or group 6?

Carers are now in group 6 too.

@NotABeliever - My understanding from asthma UK is that asthmatics who are prescribed a steroid inhaler aged 16-64 will be vaccinated in group 6:

www.asthma.org.uk/advice/triggers/coronavirus-covid-19/what-should-people-with-asthma-do-now/#Vaccine

On their twitter asthma UK said:

"Most other people with asthma aged 16 to 64 will be offered the vaccine in the sixth group. We understand that you would be invited in this group if you have been prescribed a steroid inhaler – this is the same way people are identified for a free flu vaccine each year.

We asked for this confirmation as some government materials made a reference to severe asthma in the sixth group. This is an unhelpful term because it’s actually describing anyone prescribed a steroid inhaler, rather than a severe diagnosis or someone who is CEV."
