Just got a notification that I have been in contact with a positive case and need to isolate.....

For 1 day until 2nd Jan 11:59pm

So I got the notification 1 he and 15 mins before my isolation period ends.

I haven't been in close contact with anyone but I have been to the supermarket and taken DD to the zoo and a farm park in the last 10 days.

Brilliant!

Well that's useful, thanks NHS app!!

It's under 'about this app' 'manage my data'

So again not exactly intuitive

monkeypuzzeltree · 03/01/2021 13:25

First day the track and trace called me and said they needed to ask me questions for 45 minutes. I said I'd love to but I could barely see straight, may as well have asked me to repaint the lounge. They then called me for both kids - you can't even answer the questions for each person on one call. I ended up completing the i fo online for me, the app tells me it doesn't work for some reason I don't understand. Total rubbish.

That said a lovely Spanish lady called me last night and asked if I was still prepared to isolate. It made me laugh out loud as right now, going to the kitchen requires effort and planning, she was so sweet, she ended up laughing too. Everyone should get a call from her, she was brilliant.

Well that's useful, thanks NHS app!!

I had this but for 2 days... I had been to a supermarket 10 days previously... Could've unwittingly infected people due

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/01/2021 15:17

Oops! during the 8 days
I thought Track and trace had improved?
Yet another lie

@Quarantino

afaik it doesn't actually 'track' you but if your phone (with NHS app bluetooth tracking on) is within close range of another phone (with tracking on) for a set amount of time, it logs as 'contact'. A while ago this was 15 mins within 2 meters but the parameters may have been adjusted.

I'd expect better from the T&T system, does this mean the person only just got a positive test result?

Do you know what the parameters have changed to/where I can find out? I've posted on another thread but my mum's been told she was exposed on 1st Jan but she wasn't near anyone for 15 mins within 2 metres so I'm trying to reassure her it's probably the neighbours and that it's just an algorithim.

None the less, she's convinced because of the new strain being more transmissible, she's got it from someone passing her walking the dog or from the man in the paper shop

NorthernChinchilla · 03/01/2021 15:57

I had the same thing, got a "your isolation ends today, hurrah" type message. At 9pm, so 3 hours to isolate.
And it hadn't told me I needed to isolate before that....

Plus as I'm signed off at the mo, I literally hadn't left the house bar seeing my counsellor on two occasions (wasnt her). Plus DH didn't get a notification.

Bit of a puzzler all round.... I would laugh if it weren't all so bloody serious Hmm

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/01/2021 16:00

This is why I deleted the app, it's not fit for purpose.

Quarantino · 03/01/2021 17:13

lay here's what I found in the app links:

‘Close contact’ is based on an algorithm, but generally means you've been within 2 metres of someone with coronavirus for 15 minutes or more. Read more about how the risk scoring algorithm works.

@CovoidOfAllHumanity thanks

I got a notification on Thursday evening that I had to isolate for 3 days (so contact must have been a week earlier). When I opened the app it said that the notification had been sent on the Tuesday not the Thursday but it definitely didn’t come up on my phone til the Thursday evening.
As soon as I had the notification I fully isolated til the end of the specified period. I’m just so worried because I went to the supermarket on the Thursday morning before I got the notification. Surely I can’t be fined if I hadn’t got the notification (even though the app says it was sent on the Tuesday)?

EmmaT93 · 03/01/2021 20:37

Also I’m autistic and a total rule follower, I’m so upset that I could be in trouble. I absolutely would not have broken any rules purposely. I’m on my phone a lot so would have definitely seen an earlier notification had it been sent.
Has anyone else had any problems with the app and notifications?

Stealthtoast · 03/01/2021 23:28

I got a notification of an exposure this week when I definitely wasn't near anyone positive for any amount of time. According to other mumsnet threads you can't be fined based on the app anyway as it's not obligatory to even have it.

TheSockMonster · 03/01/2021 23:45

DH and another member of staff in our company were in a confined space for over an hour in face to face contact with someone who days later tested positive. They pass our company contact details and mobile phone numbers/email addresses for both members of staff along with a log showing times in contact to Track and Trace then notify us directly as a courtesy.

We calculate the isolation period and they begin their self isolation. Neither us as a company, nor DH nor our other member of staff hear a thing from Track and Trace, nor as it turns out did anyone from a third company with staff present on the same day.

Useless!

Meanwhile DB has had so many app alerts to self isolate that his (public sector) employer have asked him to turn off the sharing function. Apparently in the 2.5 month period leading up to Christmas he had spent more time at home isolating than in work.

I know these are unprecedented times, but I do feel like we could do better.
