Will you take single shot vaccine?

I am not anti vax, if anything I’m anti anti-vaxers. But I don’t trust the government acting in defiance of Pfizer’s own advice (and now Fauci) so I won’t take a vaccination until double injections are available. I am furious that my parents are being out in the position of being single dose-ers without consent. Willis yoj take a single dose and if so why?

I’ll trust the medical experts who have made the decision. It seems sensible to me and yes, I would have it.

Angel2702 · 02/01/2021 10:41

Yes because it means more people can be vaccinated faster. Having the double dose straight away would be better for individuals but at the price of many, many vulnerable people left waiting a long time to get any protection at all.

Porcupineintherough · 02/01/2021 10:44

Yep. Would trot over hot coals for it too.

ancientgran · 02/01/2021 10:45

It seems much fairer to share what is available until the most vulnerable have some protection. Plenty of 80+ and care home patients haven't had the vaccine and don't know when they will get it. Frontline NHS and carers are in the same position. People who have had one dose and demanding the second seem selfish to me.

I'm tier 6 so won't get it for months whatever happens but my 75 year old disabled husband, BAME with diabetes will hopefully get it sooner with this plan.

I think give as many people as possible some protection as soon as possible, rather than half that number having super duper protection and it all taking twice as long. I would wait all night, every night, in a howling gale to have even one jab.

Yes I will take what is offered as soon as it is offered.

I'm cv but working in busy overcrowded classrooms each day with no social distancing, masks, etc.

I've had covid but 12 weeks in I'm still struggling daily. There's no guarantee I can't get it again, but really not sure I could do this again, whilst already feeling ill effects from the first time round.

And, as far as I know, we are not being offered a single dose. Just that the space between the two doses has been extended to 12 weeks.

Keha · 02/01/2021 10:57

Yes

Crumpetycrump · 02/01/2021 10:58

Yes

lancashirelady · 02/01/2021 11:02

Yes of course. The more people vaccinated the better.

southeastdweller · 02/01/2021 11:05

Hell no.

DianaT1969 · 02/01/2021 11:13

Of course. Your argument is ludicrous. Why would you or your parents turn down a vaccine that offers around 60% protection? You get the other 5% or so later. What were you planning to do in the interim between injections? Go on a cruise, visit nightclubs and have raves at your house?

DianaT1969 · 02/01/2021 11:14

Every anti vax thread I have read on here begins with "I'm not anti-vax".

SpikySara · 02/01/2021 11:16

I would take the first dose. I won’t take the second unless it’s the same type of vaccine. Not keen on this untested mix and match approach.

This is very true! There seems to be loads on here this morning, I think they are mostly opportunists. One started I am not anti vax in fact I am anti anti vax HmmGrin

What if you get the Oxford vaccine which is fine as a single dose 12 weeks apart?
JM10 · 02/01/2021 11:26

Absolutely. I don't understand why you wouldn't to be honest.

thatgingergirl · 02/01/2021 12:30

I'd be grateful for a single vaccination shot for myself. I'd be even more so for my parents (in their 80s) to have a single jab. Just want them to get their call - happy to take them anywhere, at any time and to get in any queue necessary!

AnneElliott · 02/01/2021 12:43

I don't understand why you wouldn't take the first jab and get the protection it gives you. When they first started making the vaccine there were talks of it being only 50% effective. Since the first dose is more effective than what we originally thought - why wouldn't you take it?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 02/01/2021 12:45

Oxford definitely. Pfizer less sure and need to do more reading. However I've already had my 1st Pfizer so it's a moot point really.
