What are peoples thoughts on special need schools staying open around the country? Teachers and parents views. Seems like it’s really important for the pupils and their parents but very risky for teachers and their families.

The SEN teachers who have said that it’s so important to families and children that you stay open: thank you!

You are brave and wonderful people. What you do is so important and life-saving for families. You do a fantastic job.

if you aren’t working then you have time for 1:1 working
I’m presuming you’re being sarcastic? What about parents of children who barely sleep at night? Try doing 1:1 learning when you’ve had about an hours sleep. Also what if you have other children - how do you teach them whilst looking after a severely disabled child that needs 1:1?[/quote]
That's one sentence taken out of context to be rude. The poster I was talking to and me have managed to have a very sensible conversation about this.

Flat we are now thanks. He doesn't have LD and finally sleeps now. He's in MS college with an ehcp. Was an awful few years and a fight but we got there in the end Smile

No worries. I've had my letter from my union and whilst I support primary and secondary pupils due to their large class sizes I am not sending in my letter.

Being a parent of a child who is disabled I understand.

Special schools offer a very different service and whilst I support parents who choose to keep their kids at home I also believe those who are vulnerable should be in school where it's best for the family.

@Thedogshow

During the first lockdown, most of our students did stay home for the first couple of weeks, but they just couldn't cope with the severe change/disruption (all have Autism) and so after a couple of weeks they were all back in.
The change in routine coupled with remote learning just didn't work for them.
They were better off in school and I was happy to be there with them Smile

I'll be bloody annoyed if schools close for kids with ehcp's!
