Can’t breathe when lying down - anyone else?

I’ve tried to stay away from COVID news as I have terrible health anxiety, so I’m not sure if this is a common symptom.

I’ve had awful bloating and on-off constipation for the past week, coinciding with period so didn’t think that much of it.

Last night I woke up suddenly at 1am with a racing heart and a scratchy throat, and I couldn’t stop swallowing, as in every second! I tried to get back to sleep but would snap awake every minute with the same problems, it’s what I imagine drowning feels like, and also the compulsive swallowing. Managed to get an hour of sleep on propped up pillows, been awake for hours now and wrestling with the swallowing urge and feeling heaviness on my chest.

Has anyone had anything similar? I’m terrified and feel very alone.

Thanks for any replies/advice.

It sounds like panic and anxiety to me. Drink lots of water and try the headspace app.

Sounds like anxiety to me too. I went through it last March and have been having palpitations and a feeling of not being able to breathe properly or relaxedly since going back to work after half term.

I've had this, weirdly both times after I've given birth. Couldn't sleep as I stopped breathing and snapped myself awake. I'm sure it was related to the adrenaline etc from giving birth. It definitely sounds more like anxiety than covid.

I had that. I didn't realise it was covid until I then loss my smell and got a fever.

I had the same over the last week I felt like I couldn’t get a full breath in but my test came back negative so I’m putting it down to my asthma and anxiety.

I'd recommend an Oximeter, but you can easily get addicted to them if you were really feeling anxious.

Get a test but it could also be something like silent reflux or anxiety. Anxiety can cause so many physical symptoms.
